Since we have had a few posts on ball flight I thought I'd pose a question.
I've got a very naturally high ball flight, now I do like my irons but I can't help think a different shaft would bring the ball flight down, according to the kbs website I've got the tour v 90's and they have a balll flight which is high, coupled with the GI irons I have I dont think it helps.
Are there any GI irons out there with shafts to bring the flight down? Most shafts for low ball flight seem to be on low hc irons and I still need GI irons, not looking for anymore distance really.

the idea of GI irons is to get the ball up quickly and that is why they are fitted with those shafts. to change would be a counter productive move i would have thought.

I had this trouble and wasn't far off replacing my irons for something I thought was more suitable. Turns out I was flicking at the ball and striking up. Rather than lagging the club more and delivering a downward strike. Finally raking a divot rather than nipping it off the fairway. But still nice to know I can flick one up there if I need to.

The shaft can only do so much. Angle of attack and dynamic loft can easily be changed with a couple of lessons.

If you think a tube of metal will change this, then you're going down an expensive, fruitless path.

Keep your current shafts. Just learn to hit them lower when needed.

My normal flight is mid/high but I've learned to hit it lower when needed.

As Virt' says, shaft will only give you so much.

Got some range time tommorow so might have a play, I hit a Callaway Apex UT with a c taper shaft and it went miles and much lower than my usual flight, that got my interest.

I went from rifle 6.0 to nippon modus tour in x flex looking for a lower flight

the nippons may be more piercing but not really any lower

as mentioned, altering the dynamic loft is a big factor.

Take a look at the John Letters TR47 irons with Project X shafts.....superb piercing ball flight and easy to hit.

I watch my old pro hit the lowest 7 I ever with hi launching GI irons and hi launching kbs90 shafts.

When I had my iron fitting It was a toss up between the project x 6.0 in stiff and the dg pro stiff both with give you a lower more controllable flight well the seemed to for me I play a set of nike vapor pro combo irons and they're plenty forgiving ect for a players cavityback the 8-p are more of a blade profile and are ment to give you the lower more controllable flight coupled with the correct shaft ,then 7-4iron are ment to give you a little higher flight and launch so you can really fly the long irons they play like a compact cavity back .they work for me .

Try striking the ball with it a little further back in your stance. It will feel strange to start with, but will keep the ball down. I have to do this with my drive, as I have the same problem

I would suggest keeping your hands ahead at impact, ball around middle/just forward of middle depending on iron, I think about getting the handle ahead of ball. I can even take a massive or swallow divots with this method and still get the ball to fly low (sorry I am more of a feel player non thinking player, so not sure how it works)

Been trying to get my son playing around with his shots more recently, and he has success with this as well.

Works great for me and gives me a low ball flight when necessary and keeps that lovely higher ball flight in the better months of the year, assuming you play in not a windy/wet place always.

You can change shafts and it may help, but it sounds like you will still benefit from improving your ball striking as it seems you may be "scooping" or "flicking" the ball a little on impact. I have the same problem and have done a lot of work on keeping my hands ahead of the ball at impact and trying to take a divot after the ball. This has the effect of almost hooding the face at impact compared to before, resulting in a much lower, more penetrative ball flight. This is how a ball should be struck and it's great to see and feel when you hit one right. Try to think more about leading with your left forearm, don't let your wrist break until it has to and only after impact and try to keep your hands moving forward through the shot. New shafts or not this will help you. As others have said, moving the ball back a little in your stance if you can will help. Also concentrate on turning as this moves the bottom of your arc forwards, improving your chances of striking the ball before the turf.
