Ball fitting - It does make a difference

The things is my ball choice is much more down to how it plays around and on the green and how it reacts from a full or partia wedge into the green. As long as that same ball doesn't spin massively off the driver I'm a happy bunny

Interesting stuff. I normally use the Srixon AD333 ball too. After doing a Bridgestone online fitting thing I was recommended the e6 ball also but I've yet to test them out (got a dozen in the house).

Also just recieved my B330rx balls for my GM sub.

I'll probably use all of the above til they're all done...unless one stands out.

A comparison between different bridgestone balls would have been more informative. I didn't notice the 20 yard difference...20 yards does seem excessive.

I know. Couple that with a new set of TM Rocketfuelbladzburners 2 The Sqeakquel and hey presto, 37 extra yards just by spending a lot of money on new equipment and not working on the fundamentals at all.

I tells you, this golf lark is simple, no idea why anyone bleats on about lessons and all that crap, all you need to do is spend lots of dosh. You just ask the marketing departments of golf manufacturers, would they say such a thing if it wasn't true????

Is the exact same reason behind me playing the Pro V1.

I worked from the putter backwards when choosing to move away from the DX3. Tried all sorts but ended up choosing the most expensive of the bunch

I worked out what I scored best with from 100 yards in and greenside. Pro V won hands down.

My driver speed isn't brisk enough to generate masses of spin so I have no issue with these being too "spinny" with the longer clubs.

Find a ball you like and stick with it

I saw the results of all swings on both balls, I think the stats I gave are an average of the 5 swings on each ball, as on the E6 my last swing was 107.6mph. He also took out one shot on the AD333 as I tried to smack the skin of it, lost my balance and shot the ball at 45 degrees left for a grand distance of 92yds. So no, I've not been had, the guy was very honest is swing assessment and he even managed to keep a straight face.

Hey, a lot of golf is played between the ears. So if it works for you and makes you feel more confident then more power to you, and go for it. I say if your enjoyment of the game is improved by buying Bridgestones instead of Srixons then where's the problem?

Not sure if your reply means I was duped into thinking the E6 was better as I was being told the stats, as that is not the case. After the 5 AD333 hits we reviewed the data on his laptop and did the same after the E6 shots, the data was there in front of me to look at, any way, I did the fitting as around the same time last year and over the past year I've had lessons, my swing has changed and I was curious to see if anything at all had changed in regard to ball recomendation.

Personally I like the AD333 balls, I've a bag full and two dozen sitting on the shelf along with 2 dozen z-stars, bought when AG were selling them cheap.

That said I may buy a sleeve for the upcoming meet, any advantage I can get while still undergoing swing changes can only work to my benefit.

I guess the only way to be sure what ball flies further or spins better around the green, would be to put a selection on robot swing machine so you have an exact replication of swing everytime, then you would have the imperical data to say one way or another which ball does what.

No wasn't inferring you were duped at all, it was one of my very rare straight forward posts with no irony in it.

I'd actually say that it does not matter if you were duped (not that I think you were). All that matters is that you have a ball that you are confident with. As that will improve your standard and enjoyment of golf. And how you got to like and trust that ball (advertising, past experience, subconscious prejudices, recommendations from forumers or mates, ball fitting, AG were flogging them off cheap) is not the issue, but the fact that you like and trust the ball and are confident with it is.

I'd say a lot of the decision on golf balls is irrational. I like B330 RXs a lot and feel more confident when I play one. But rationally, with my standard of golf and swing speed, I suspect I could get just about as much from a cheaper ball. But I irrationally chose the B330RX. Assuming they are on sale. ;)

Also once I found a TP Penta and suddenly started playing well with it. So I bought some more (on sale of course). Was that because the ball was suited to my level of skill, most certainly not as I am not god enough to get all the benefit form it. But it made me feel like a better player. Totally irrational.

Ah I see where you're coming from now Hacker, I suppose thanks to marketing peple will think the better more expensive balls will make them play better. My mate uses the ProV1, he loves them, I hate them, dunno what it is I just cannot get away with them.

My dad told me, once when playing he hit the absolute screamer of the deck went for a country mile, well as far as a country mile is when you're 76, anyway the ball label whore playing up the opposite fairway came running over to see what it was my dad was playing full expecting some £45 a dozen top of the range ball, it was in fact a tatty auld pinacle that he'd found on a previous round, said ball whore was not impressed.

Yup I know the smash was poor, 1.37 give or take, mitigating factor is that I wasn't using my driver. I have bought a new driver and my current R11 is in on part ex, I've already been given a price based on its current condition and hence I didn;t want to tempt fate and damage it. So I used my friends driver, so the results while still interesting are a little skewed for me.

The results could be VERY skewed if your driver specs are different to the one you used for the test!

E6 does seem to be a Bridgestone alternative to the AD333.

But those sets of numbers are in no way comparable! Hitting a noticeable fade with the AD333 and a tiny Draw with the E6!

Poor Smash Factor too. Perhaps a slower, but more flowing, swing would generate better strikes and ball-speed.

Now this is a serious question...

Can switching ball give anyone 20-25 YRDS more?

I don't mean from a Dunlop to a pro V 1 but two decent balls going up against each other?

Wow my head hurts after reading that lot!
I think I'll stick to what ever the rest of the members leave on the course.
I have found that I hit the Titleist NXT extreme pretty well and might buy some shiney new ones.

I play the AD333 and have found it to be a pretty good ball, tried a sleeve of E6 as well and found there not to much in it really. Both feel pretty similar and I can still slice/hook the bejesus out of them despite thier claims of less spin.

If you used a ball that was very unsuitable for you and changed to one ideally matched to your swing then yes you would see a gain in distance but I doubt it would be as much as 25 yards.

Am I missing something or was the OP only offered one Bridgestone alternative to try. Surely that isn't a proper fitting and even if the B330 series didn't produce better numbers they had some degree of obligation to give more than one offering

Nope you're not missing anything, the fitter looked at the 5 shots I took with the AD333 and from those his recomendation was the E6, to be fair he did say the B330-RX could also offer some advantages, but thought the E6 was better suited to me.

But, you're right Homer, I was only given the E6 to hit, no other ball.

Just a thought, but, wouldn't the ball fitting have been more accurate if you'd used, for instance, a 7 iron. I say this because surely you would have a more consistently repeating swing with a shorter club and wouldn't spin rates be just as important a factor when using such a club?

I had a 'ball fitting' last year at a local golf club as I know the pro very well.
It went like this;
ME : Hi pro, I think I need a 'ball fitting' in order to help me lower my scores.
PRO: Sure Slime, Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow, that's the ball for you without a doubt.
ME : Why? Is it the control it'll give me around the greens?
PRO: No. They're bright yellow, easier to see in the rough!
ME : Good shout. I'll take a dozen as I'm playing all 18 holes today.

Slime
