The bad news this morning is we are on full winter greens at Rosemount because of frost.

The good news is we are now off to St. Andrews to play either the New or Jubilee! Great!!!

now there's an alternative option!

I had my first game on the Murrayshall winter greens this season. Was actually a good laugh with the 4 of us.

What was the craic with St Andy's - did you know someone down there or did you just phone up for a time?

Hi Marko,
Just back from the Home of Golf. We played the New Course, but had booked for the Jubilee. You cannot book the New it is just a case of turn up, report to the Starter, and if there is a slot you play. We booked the Jubilee by phone this morning, but the tee time was 12.08 and as we arrived early we got on the New straight away. The weather was fantastic, shirt sleeves and hardly any breeze to bother us. The greens were superb and the fairways gorgeous although we did have mats or you could play from the first cut of rough.

I understand why courses do it (although it does seem more prevalent in Scotland) but playing off mats and having to play everything from the first cut just doesn't seem like you are playing a proper round.

The first cut of rough at St. Andrews is hardly discernable from the fairway anyway.

Wouldn't give anyone a green fee to be told play from the semi. Not a chance.
