bad galvin green service.

Took a GG coat back to shop as i got drowned by a summer thunderstorm. They sent it back with a solution to wash the jacket in. Except it was in scandinavian languages. After advice on here i google translated and it said to dry in tumble dryer or the oven. Really. What wi me oven chips. Sent it back a second time And they sealed it. But they sent it back with a pair of waterproof trousers that fit like a glove and are fantastic. But where they for me? No letter of apologies for being messed about. To save any arguements ave kept them. But not the best service.

Remember that 'simply sewing' anything onto Goretex (or other waterproof) fabric destroys the waterproof quality in that area. The US Ryder Cup team certainly experienced that after their Wags applique-ed their (Zero Restriction) 'waterproof' jackets!

So maybe not quite the simple process that it looks. But that certainly seemed to take longer than it should have! A 1st class service would have provided estimate (initially) and updates/reasons throughout that time! And possibly provide a 'money-off' voucher if expected turnaround is exceeded significantly.

Wrong.

It was Sun Mountain rain gear.

I've had my jacket for about 5 years never had any problem. I know others have, but wonder if the care instructions have been followed:-

1. Don't use fabric softener or any built into washing powder. Fairy ideal.

2. After washing put through a separate rinse cycle as jacket will retain soap mix.

3. Tumble dry low setting. Once dry then iron to reactive waterproofing.

I know it's a bit of a chore but stick to it and it'll reward you.
Personally I think when it's been washed with conditioner that's done the damage

What's the story behind it??

The US arrived with Sun Mountain Waterproof gear - they found out that the clothing actual retained the water and they became heavy and some failed

So they had to spend thousands in the Pro Shop on Pro quip stuff which worked well

Bit of a nonsense, IMO, of course, to spend 300 notes on a jacket and have that ballache!

I got a Nike hyperflex (?) jacket in the sale (was about £200 originally I think), chuck in washing machine then tumble drier and good as new. Best waterproof jacket I've tried by a distance with the stretchy material. The GG material always feels like a paper bag to me for some reason, never find them very comfortable and I quite fancied one when I ended up with the Nike.

Got a Hyperflex Storm the other week in the Nike Outlet for £50! Only has a 3 year guarantee compared to Gore Tex's lifetime one though

Always followed it to the letter of the law. Or more importantly missis T has. What proper narked me was the feedback re washing from GG was as you mentioned and they were quite insistent. But then sent me reproofing instructions in sweedish, danish and finnish. Planks.

Sun Mountain?

I thought it was Sunice gear that was a problem?

What if you don't have a tumble dryer?

Got mine for £45 from Direct Golf after Ashley bought them, absolute bargain as it's a great jacket

To be honest I'd sooner buy one every 3 years than have to follow some ridiculous maintenance regime......

Thanks. I guess SM should stick to making excellent golf bags!

No worries and from my experience if the OP had bought either Sunice or Zero Restriction instead of GG this thread wouldn't exist. Both in my experience are far superior.

Never understood the hype around galvin green. Got adidas goretex which cost a fraction of the price for exactly the same material.

Not sure why the tshirts are 70 quid either when nike etc can sell them in pretty advanced materials for 40.
