so i posted not long ago that gg had taken 6 weeks to repair the velcro on the cuff. well, when it returned it looked like someone's gran had repaired it. the stitching was all over the place.

today the stitching come undone and the velcro cuff is falling apart. i also noticed the other arm is coming undone too!!!

does anyone know or have any experience with gg and how to get them to fast track the repair or replacement. the pro shop said they'd just send it back as usual. i cant wait 6 weeks again

Never owned a proper set of waterproofs but that seems absolutely shocking from a massive name in 'waterproofs'

I certainly won't be spending money on Galvin gear after this shoddy episode.

Just to provide balance - i have three waterproof tops , two pairs of trousers and every item is still good as new , never had any issue with them at all. For me they are still the best waterproofs you can get.

Again I thought their service was decent... had a 2 year old gore-tex jacket. Stitching came away inside pocket... they sent me a completely new jacket.. albeit slightly different design and colours and 3 weeks later but I thought that was pretty good

Paying for the name now.
You'll get the fan boys that swear by them, but plenty of other (cheaper) alternatives are just as good/if not better.

Have to agree. Plenty like FJ, , Adidas Ping, Proquip etc that are as functional these days without paying for the GG name.
So why the fixation with FJ shoes? Plenty of other brands that are as functional these days without paying for the FJ name.

Agreed with all but pro quip. Got a shower top from them and the velcro came away pretty much straight from the off.

Only costed 50 quid so didn't bother with the fuss of returning it. But never bought pro quip since.

In fairness, FJ shoes in the main are no more expensive than similar offerings from UA, Ecco, Adidas and Nike to name a few. Only really the Icons are more expensive and they are a breed apart from rival offerings IMO.
Galvin stuff is exclusively more expensive than rivals similar offerings. Hell, even their discontinued sale items are more expensive than similar from other manufacturers.

I always thought that until I owned a pair of Galvin Green waterproof trousers. Worn them in horrendous wet weather on numerous conditions and was bone dry so for me money well spent.

It's more the point the OP isn't asking for financial help or asking for any comparison to other brands, just advice on GG and homer was answering a point about people being fan boys to a particular brand and he is the first to defend foitjoy and his collection of myjoys.

I'm surprised that GG had it repaired, my experience of them is of items being replaced like for like.

Also have to point out, that though its expensive, so are other gortex garments. you only have to look in any outdoor store at the prices of Gortex in those.

They do also offer a lifetime guarantee , which i'm not sure you get with any of the cheaper stuff.

and as for FJ shoes, you couldn't pay me to have another pair;)

My Pro Shop was showing me the new style GG gear at the weekend. Jacket £349, trousers £349!

He also showed me a really smart (and comfortable) Sunderland jacket for £99. Sunderland also comes with a lifetime waterproof guarantee.

All goretex keeps you dry though. GG doesnt have better goretex than the other brands - they just charge more.

Had GG and they have been fantastic. Trousers, shirts, tops and jacket. However the customer sevice when I returned my jacket was woeful.
Re cost of GG gear. It is stupid. I wrote on here a year or two back that Golf monthly had an article about GG it would of cost 1k plus for one of there outfits. Got into walking and some of the gear is cheaper and better than some of the golf gear

this pretty much my experience too

this pretty much my experience too

have always said if its good. Say its good. If it is bad. Say it is bad. When i was told to rewash my coat and bang it in the oven to dry it in sweedish. Am sorry but that dont wash well with me ( pardon the pun). Coupled with the fact that GG are anal in how you wash there waterproofs. I thought was very poor.

The price of GG is known , it's not a surprise to anyone , looking after the waterproofs is not a surprise , it's goretex material - it does need looking after using the recommended method , it's not really a hardship and there is other makes out there to buy if GG is too expensive or too much hassle
