Today I had a bad day with the driver. Luckily my trusty 3 wood was on song. Unfortunately two lost balls ruined a good round! Range tomorrow to hopefully get back to grips with it!

What do you guys do when you next have a round knowing that your driver was misbehaving last time out?

use it on par 5's only until it learns it's lesson

Keep using it.

I know when my driver goes pear shaped it one of 2 things.

The ball is too far forward.

Or

I'm snatching at the top.

First I'll check my ball position, as that's the easiest, then work through a better transition.

If both fail ill guts it out or move to my 4 wood if the drive/fairway/trouble allows.

If I'm not swinging well with my driver, I'll put it away. Generally, when I go wrong with a driver, it goes really wrong, so it's best off left in the bag. Lost confidence with my driver of late, so been relying on the trusty Rescue off the tee, been working pretty nicely so far :)

Work out what the problem is.
It will be either the contact (duffs/thins/tops/skys) or
The direction (slice/hook)

If it's the contact, try and keep your head still on the backswing
If it's the direction, check your grip and divots
If it's contact and direction, slow it down.
And if none of the above work, have a rest from golf for 2 weeks then give it up altogether.

wise words indeed, you listening OP?

A little tip. When the driver goes pear shaped. Stop trying to hit the ball. Instead try to sweep the ball off the tee. It should at least get the ball in the fairway consistently. (will more than likely lack your normal length)

I never know round to round how any of my game will go, but I have gotten used to the fact that if my long game is poor my short game will save me & vice versa.

A couple of weeks ago my long game was on fire, bu didn;t chip or putt well. This weekend my long game was all over the place, but with 24 putts all of my short game was good (except a 2ft putt which I snap-hooked) and I scored 36points.

However, when I'm out on the course I assume my driving will be decent and play to that - there is no point (IMHO) in playing differently just because last week you struggled.

I don't worry. As long as the swing in general terms is pretty good I'll put it down to bad day. It usually comes down to a timing or sync issue. I might hit a small bucket of balls at a range and just groove a sense of timing but usually I'll take my chances next time out

Played today and only used my 3 wood. I had a great game! Was shorter of the tee but in the middle of the fairway most of the time. Shot 79. Another nice cut :D went to the range after to get back to grips with the driver and were getting on okay again. I will have to start using my 3 wood more often though as today has shown the driver is not always needed.
