Just played for what is my first card to get my H/C. I posted 115 which is the worst for a while. Admittedly off winter tees for 16/18 but still......

However, it is the first and I still got out and played this morning which was good. After the rain of the past few days the course was surprisingly clear of standing although there were a few plugged lies.

Now just got to clean the clubs!!!

Know the feeling mate, did the same yesterday with a 98 including 3 penalty shots. Been hitting 90ish the past fortnight but nerves and wind took its toll. I cancelled today as I felt down. good luck on the next card.

Be glad you can get out at all. I'm stuck here with a knackered back unable to even hit a few putts on the carpet. I'm slowly going out of my mind. HID has just asked if I can go with her to the garden centre to get some soil. If I could lift a sack of that my backside would have been up the club hours ago.

Two ways of looking at the bad score. 1) it gives you something to beat next time and 2) if you do have another bad card at least your soon get card when you start scoring well again.

Try and relax with the others and let the score take care of itself and don't try too hard or take on too many risky shots to save yourself if you get in trouble. Glad you enjoyed it and the course wasn't too wet.

The beginiing of the season is a struggle for most of us,what with being rusty, the weather and the courses still getting over a very severe winter. Give it a week or so and i am sure we will all be playing a bit better (hopefully)

Am looking forward to my first full round next month - I'd be pleased with 115!

I like the advice to just enjoy the game and forget the score. My old playing partner used to keep the scorecard and forbid me to count or keep track of the score to make me focus properly on each shot.

I used to be like that as my mate would always do the scoring... the problem comes when that mate isn't around, I hardly know what's going on.

Ask Smiffy, I generally don't know who's doing what, why or how many :D :D :D

I'm not sure it's entirely a good thing.

To play this game properly I think it's important for everyone to keep their own score and know where they stand, or else the person doing the scoring needs to keep everyone informed of the standings.... so that if someone needs to finish with a couple of birdies to win a match they are fully aware of it.

I don't know if my brain is defective or what, but even though I always keep my own score, I couldn't tell you exactly how I'm doing at any particular time.

Sure, I know if I'm doing relatively well or not. I will know that I'm 4 or 5 over after 11, or 7 or 8 over after 16, but I couldn't tell you exactly how I'm doing unless I thought about it or added it up on the card.

I don't necessarily think it hurts to know how you're doing, but the problems start big time (for some, not all) when you start projecting how well you're going to do by the end. ie. I'm 2 over for the front 9 so I could finish +4, or I need to par the last 4 holes for my best ever round, etc.

I know how you feel, before the bad weather 95% of my rounds were under 85 with a few rounds in the 70s,had 3 comps in the last few weeks and all around the 90 mark, feel like packing in!!!!!
