I never got to cat 1 until a few years ago and I'm still hanging in there at 60. Played with a scratch golfer in the medal at Dunbar last week, both of us shot 78. Mind you, the wind was blowing a bit and the CSS was 74, but only a handful of players bettered our score.

Short game guys, all the young guns think of hitting the ball, I think of holing it.

An easily repeated swing, not necssarily a "good" swing or a thing of beauty, can see you playing competitive golf right into your 60s. You just need to look at the county seniors teams.

As long as your nerves remain intact enough to aoid the yips on any chips or putts.

25yrs ago, at age 30, I was pretty much the longest off the tee at the club and was playing off 5. Currently, I'm hitting the ball about the same distance but way down behind the youngsters yet my handicap is still 5. That said I'd have been lucky to break 30 putts back then but nowadays its rare I go over 30 putts. Back then I couldforce a wedge to 150 but now its a 7 or even a 6...

Length has gone but not cunning...
