Played my (possible) last 9 holes of the year yesterday. The fact that it was snowing when I walked down the 9th, sadly means its time for the range until 2012..

Anyway, its not all bad as I buried the hatchet with a couple of season-long problem holes, thanks to the weather and playing with a half set. So it forced me to think differently

1st hole - 385yd Par 4 with a burn at 220yards. Normally a drive and a 8/9 iron. I have had trouble hitting and sticking on teh green as it slopes away from you.

Yesterday - No driver in the bag, so hit a hybrid short of the burn and then a 5 iron. Approach shot bounced (unexpectadly) before the green and ran on to finish 12 feet from pin. 2 putts for par

3rd hole - 397 yards Par 4. Normally a uphill drive to the crest and a 6 iron down to the green. I never hit this GIR - I either go left or the ball dies on teh bounce before the green.

Yesterday - No driver in the bag, so hit a 3 wood. Plenty left to do so hit my hybrid. Approach landed pin high, to 15 feet. 2 putts for par.

Ended up with my best GIR of the year.... I'll take that

Note to self : Must start holing 12-15ft putts !!!

Good for you fella but don't pressurise yourself too much on those 12-15 foot putts. Pro golfers don't hole that many from that range. Good shooting and I hope the snow doesn't stay for too long! :)

maybe another note to self:leave driver in bag lol!!!

earlier in the year i tried playing 4 iron from most tee's and i hit the first 5 greens in regulation and was level par.it didn't last though!!!

Too right Wull. Although my driver has been the most consistent stick all season. I picked up a 3-wood on here the other month and planned to "get to know" it better.

I have always been a fan of getting as close as poss so that I can get take a shorter iron and come in higher to the pin.

Less off the tee, then running it up with a long iron maybe a new tact for 2012

I always think you are better off hitting something you can play consistently leaving yourself with a 6 iron from the fairway rather a 9 iron from the rough or in the trees or wherever it is you normally spray your drive to.......:o.

Adey,

The annoying thing is that I rarely miss fairways. Its my approach shot accuracy that is the clincher. Focussing too much on "getting it close", rather than just getting it onto the heart of the dancfloor - I am a sucker for a good lookin pin....oooer missus !
