Ask the experts - title or concept flaw?

Personally I don't ever give swing advice as such, as I’ve not that much experience in swing dynamics. If it’s something I have knowledge of I might comment.

I think you should be able to demon straight that your own game has reached a competent level before dishing advice out.

I think the title itself "Expert" is where the problem is, to be fair on here that may add up to 2 or three qualified teachers who could be classed as Expert


I think experienced is the better word, you need not be an expert to know the answer to a problem that you discovered and cured many years before.

Lets face it the same questions, faults, cures have been out there for many many years its great that all can join in and discuss and find the answers to their questions. Its then down to the recipient to try or ignore in my opinion

I do not believe that you need to be PGA PRO or trained teacher to offer advice nor do i believe that high handicappers have no helpful tips to offer, in fact some high hcp players can still remember how to fix the early problems so they can offer valid advice too.

Granted i am not saying a total newbie should have the answers but i think that is why a new section in the forum should be created called New Tips / Advice and then keep the ATE to the PGA type people

Guys its a free forum we are not paying for lessons so lets keep it in the real world and keep the advice coming good or bad !!

I had a pro fitter state my old reg iron shafts were the same as new stiff shafts

I already posted in the other thread saying it should be called "Ask the forum" with a sub heading of 'ask anything about your swing or golf equipment'


I believe everyone can contribute regardless of handicap, even if it's to point a newby to the Mark Crossfield videos, it's still a valued contribution and opinion.

Rather than use the lounge, ATE was created to separate usual golf chat with slightly more technical stuff. It was also mentioned before that GM actually had some experts (not including our current resident expert, bob) lined up but it petered out.

Agreed... Also 'ask the forum' sounds more appropriate. Expert is a very 'elite' word that I think people don't understand entirely. I'd argue no one on this site is an expert in golf mechanics neither are many teaching pro's, But what I would say is they have a very sound knowledge and understanding.

For e.g.. Expert or Professional witness mean two very different things in a court of law, and those who claim to be an expert at anything would most likely find themselves being made very red faced by barrister and would end up questioning their own knowledge on the subject.
