It's not the club as such making a profit.
There are 2 separate accounts: 1 for the course as a business like wages, equipment etc v green fees and membership fees, then the comps fund is separate. It never gets included in the books as profit for the club, just stays there.
I've never known any different for comparison but I like having a set structure without thinking about how many people entered.
