Are you happy with 30 points?

On my own course, no. On others then probably yes.

my last two have been 43 at Vale de Pinta and 39 at Gramacho so one happy chappy at the mo :D

30 points with the shanks - very happy... last midweek
31 points without the shanks -disappointed..... weekend just gone. (pleased to have no shanks though)

I'm happy regardless of the score - my sense of achievement differs in regards the amount of points gained.

30 would be disappointing

Points isn't a fair evaluation of how you have played.... But if it's what you wish to gauge your golf by then no I would be pretty pissed with 33 points because to shoot that more than one area of my game must have been off, unless it was on terrible conditions.

For example I'm currently playing off 8 in our swindle , two weeks ago I shot 33 points off 8 and hit the ball terrible all day. Everyone laughed when I said I'd hit 33 points and hacked, after all this would equate to 36 off 11... But some hoe my score was pretty tidy.

I don't just my game on the points scored, it's how you hit the ball that counts in my eyes, stroke play on the other hand is a different cattle of fish all together

I think 30 is considered the benchmark of respectability by many golfers - no idea why, but I guess it's because it starts with a '3' as your better scores generally do too.

I think it means you haven't quite fired on all cylinders but you haven't completely chopped it either, and I can certainly remember several rounds where I've not really got it together but then tried like hell to at least get to 30... and then felt reasonably satisfied when I have.

Others may, of course, disagree...

Happy enough with 30. Only a few outside the buffer. I scored that in the roll up yesterday. Felt I struck the ball better than that for the most part but just couldn't seem to make a score. As Jezz says, there are other days when I've hit it like a real chopper and been pleased to get that many.

Absolutely agree.
My first aim is win the comp.
When that doesn't happen ( usually apparent around the 4th) play better than my handicap.
When that doesn't happen ( usually apparent around the 8th) play within my buffer.
When that doesn't happen ( usually apparent around the 13th) try to put something decent in. In a Stableford that's 30 points.
When that doesn't happen.... Well, it's only a game.

NEVER !!!!!

Totaly personal opinion , 30 pts to me is playing rubbish , had 31 yesterday and couldnt buy a putt but putts were rolling well just lipping out or slightly missing ..

Im with this, 30 is a poor score IMO, if your SSS is less than par as is mine by 1 shot then 37 points is to handicap, 30 is 7 shots less therefore you are going up a shot.

An acceptable round is hitting buffer IMO, anything worse is a bad round.

Other than that, if no one's died then it's just game.

I feel 30 is a decent effort. However, I tend to think more positively than just about the points. If made good committed swings and the shots didn't come off, then 30 was going to be my best for that day. If I putted well but the reads weren't quite right, then the same.

It's the same if I have total blow out holes, I tend to forget about that and consider what did I score for the actual holes I completed. It's a way of being positive even if all is not going to plan.

Last week I drove like a noob, didn't have a clue where the ball was going to be off the tee, Chipped in out of bunkers etc and ran up 40 points ! It was rescue golf and could so easily have been 25 on another day. The positive from that is my short game was in good shape that day.

Overall, for me, I try to find positives from even an average round, it so much easier to play if you are not obsessed by the score and berating yourself every time a putt slips by or a pitch rolls off the back of the green

I never seem to be happy with whatever I shoot but buffer or better and I tend not to give HID 'the stare' when she asks how I got on.

You just have to accept each round as it plays out. A few weeks ago I scored 10 points on the front 9 and was reasonably happy to end up with 28.

30 points today at Studley Wood and was disappointed with my overall game. 16 points on the front with 2 blobs then a disappointing 14 on the back with 3 blobs!

So inconsistent lately, 5 decent pars today, 6 nett pars sometimes having to scramble well but I can blow out on too many holes by trying too hard.

Very frustrating.

38 for me today at Studley, wasn't frustrated at all :D:D

But to answer the original question, no, 30 doesn't do it for me, I'm disappointed with that score. Even in a bounce game or at an away track, I'm always thinking that buffer is my aim. As a high handicapper, that gives me 3 points to play with, so I'm happy with 33. That obviously doesn't take CSS/SSS into account but that's the score that makes me feel like I've played steady golf.

Totally agree with Sweep though about the progression through the round!

Mrs H has learned to guage my mood before asking the question these days :D
