Are premium balls woth it?

Its all about personal preference! I use mid range nxt tour/dx3 for medal rounds and in comps, but i generally search fleebay for peal graded bargain balls and use these in my usual 4 ball. This has given me opportunity to use pro v's, callaway tour and srixon z stars.
Premium balls tend to spin more so if your a slicer or a hooker then you wont want to be enhancing any unwanted side spin.....

Think it depends on the way you play. I have started using the cheapo NXTs but I've found it suits my game because I hit my irons high enough to stop just about any ball on the green, I'm prone to a fade/slice so a less spinny ball is better for me. I haven't noticed much difference at all when putting and I usually opt for a chip and run round about the green rather than play with spin. Also hit them pretty far!....and they're cheap and durable, and ...lol.

Would be cool if you could try loads of different unbranded balls and see for yourself based on results.

At this time of year (start of summer onwards) I think the premium ball comes into its own in terms of stopping on the firmer greens and for control off the putter. It certainly seems like it to me anyway. In the winter I play a firmer ball like the AD333 to try and get a few more yards and for the opposite effect where I want more roll on my putts on the wet greens. I guess to a degree it comes down to how many balls you lose and whether you can afford £40 per dozen each time

I used to get the proV's at about £20 doz when the pro was getting rid of old stock. This year he wouldnt budge from £30 doz so I buggered off and bought the zstars for £20 doz and i'm using them this year. They're ok , havnt had any complaints about them yet and they check up nicely when chipping around the greens. I've got to say I havnt noticed any difference between the two so far. I do still play the proV when playing foursomes as my partner uses them and he's loaded :D

You can still pick up zstars for £22.50 doz on ebay

Yeah they are worth it but you need to match the ball you use to your clubhead speed to get the full benefit of them.

Yes, mainly for feel around the greens for me, and off the putter. I'm not sure about the "reducing spin" of the driver part of the hype though. If i slice it , i slice it , and if i hook it , i hook it !!!

What I will say though is shop around and try different brands. I'm currently using Wilson Staff DX3's and they are a 3 piece ball that seems to tick the boxes all the boxes for me. I much prefer them to Z Star's and B330's that i have in my locker at the mo.

I've yet to pay for any of the ones I have so I would say "yes". I would never pay for a full price sleeve/dozen Pro Vee's though. I think with the older Z-Stars being available for cheap they are definitely worth the money.
