Are lessons the answer

I would agree with The Coach - I have being wandering up for months BUT I downloaded an app that offered me the opportunity to see my swing.

I was surprised at my swing and I would suggest that very few actually know their swing, they know what they think is their swing, a very big difference.

I then, using the slow motion button, established a major fault with my grip ... amended last week, won the comp with my handicap reduced by three!!

Now playing to 5/7 over par which is better than I have played for a long time.

Three three putts today or I would have hit my age!!

I live at the wrong end of the Handicap scale mostly as I don't get out enough, that's not to say I am rubbish just the bits of string holding the various parts of my game get loose, bit like mittens joined through your coat sleeves when you were little.
I played on Holiday in July and found my drives were slicing more often than not, then hooking when correcting , went out with the society and the same again and struggling to get my drives down in the afternoon Texas. Then went to a tough course where the driver quickly became a passenger in the bag but worse still it was creeping into my irons!!
Phoned the pro who initially taught me 5 years ago and booked a 'tune up' out on the course over 18 holes, he pointed out a few little issues over the first 4 holes. Then he threw all the rubbish parts of my drive in the bin (there was plenty) and we set about rebuilding it 3 holes later and the hook had totally vanished and the slice reigned into beginning to go pretty straight, whilst this was going on my iron play got tighter too. Coming up the back 9 it just got better and straighter, got ticked off for some dodgy course management and club selection along the way. 16th hole I told him where I was going it put my drive and put it to within 5 feet of where I said (shame I missed the flight).
When we had finished I felt pretty good, went up the range the following week to fire off the grass through the rugby posts they have in the middle.
Another society day came up and I was out with 3 big hitters and I was keeping in touch to their surprise, stuck my name on a longest drive board for the first time, just missed out on a positional prize, won the afternoon scramble finished the day happy with my golf. Out with a mate he was amazed at the difference. Then ambled up the course last Saturday on my own got invited to join a pair, pigged up the first 3 holes so didn't mark a card, from 5 to 14 kept the honour!! (Wish I had kept score), probably my best ever round.
It has to be the best £75 I have invested in my golf this summer. If you have a Pro who will do a course lessons I can truly recommend it.

Apologies for the ramble.

Thanks all for advice etc. I will be embarking on a course of lessons through the winter. I will keep you posted on progrees.
Thanks again.

Over the past few months my fade off the tee was becoming a regular occurrence and I couldn't work it out. A quick lesson and the pro spotted that I was re-gripping my left hand to the left and losing my "V".

Basic stuff and I couldn't believe I hadn't realised.

I'm a recent convert to the benefit of lessons - having for all my golfing life insisted that I can 'do it myself' and any issues I can 'sort myself'.

I now realise that for me that is not true - and two half hour lessons with one of our assistant pros are the proof to that as they have fixed something I was unable to fix myself and that has been an issue for me for 30yrs.

been stuck on 19/20 for 3 years so recently booked a series of lessons after which I dropped to an all time low of 16.6. As I've mentioned in other threads I just need to sort out my putting and I should drop even more.
Splash the cash on a Scotty GoLo mallet, I had a trusty Wilson Staff £24 mallet which I was pretty handy with, Mrs JBS bought me the Scotty for Crimbo (stunned on Christmas day: it was like being 9 again and getting a Chopper bike) if the greens are good...... Bob on!!
