Are head covers on my irons a bit poofy?

I use them while clubs are in transit to & from the course or on journeys & then take them off at the 1st to play the round, best of both really, minimal damage and clubs are ready to use on course

It's a bit like these drivers that buy covers for their car seats, all your doing is keeping them nice for the next person that buys it. Why buy a thing of beauty and then cover them up?

Besides, I'm sure it adds to slow play......:D

My R7's are cast so I've never bothered.

Very few dinks in the head since I started carryng (start of the year) and, all in all, still look pretty good.

I will concede the clubs clattering when walking makes a bit of a racket, but still, hey ho.

A bit poofy is a rather unfair way to put it. A bit naff, perhaps?

I have never used iron covers despite usually having forged irons (although not just right now), and I think a bit of honest chatter is fine. Remember you bang these instruments into earth, sometimes with stones and debris in it, and through abrasive sand, so no point in getting too precious about it. If clubs are put into covers still wet, that is worse than no cover at all.

I don't use them, but think if I had a nice shiney set of forged Mizzies or Titties, I'd probably get a bit OCD and want to protect them better.

Fortunately my Pings are practically bullet proof... you could mine coal with those things and not mark them up. They is well 'ard, innit.

I agree with an earlier poster - I transport my beloved Mizzys in head covers, but then free them at the course.

Because I dont want to look ghey.

Not sure I understand this concept of re-covering them when wet

The covers stay off during the round and then some nice member of staff takes the clubs after the 18th, cleans them, drys them off & pops the head-covers back on so they're protected again! Perfick!

I carry in winter and if i use my MP62 at all i've some Blue Mizuno covers for them. These are only on the clubs while carrying and come straight off after the game and heads dried before going in my locker.

Would never use them on the trolly bag in summer, just for carrying.

Using my mp32 blades over the winter and don't bother putting them on those.

Normally i would say no to covers, however i have changed to new irons and i always carry, what i have noticed is the bag clatter is marking the chrome finish on the rear of the clubs when they bump into each other, metal on metal.
I have ordered a low cost set of covers and will start to use them before the damage gets worse and would hurt their re-sale value.
I would prefer the clubs to be better protected while being carried, in the trolley bag it isnt an issue
The comment about slow play is not an issue as we mostly all carry hybrids or 3 woods and they have covers and that doesnt slow play in my opinion.

If you have the new black finish irons or forged heads i think you are mad not to use covers unless they are older and bashed already.

I think it depends on person to person, i know many people who never clean their gear either !!

So yes they are worth using if you carry and you wish to protect them and reduce clatter damage and noise

I had some on a real old set to stop the bag clatter. I then got so fed up of putting the damn things on and off and lost the one for my sand wedge that I gave them to my step dad!
