are green fee's a joke

There are only 2 courses that I've ever paid full green fee for and they are the Eden and the Old at St Andrews. Anything else was discounted or part of a package or signed on by a member.

In a week I played Meldrum House, Newburgh (member there), Royal Aberdeen and Murcar. Only cost me £20. Best week of golf ever.

your like me then, i'm a shameless ligger... i've got on everywhere for free;)

Could have played Carnoustie tomorrow in a club match but i'm working, 3 course meal and a couple of pints after all for £10 don't you just love golf in Scotland.

It's not so much that, it's paying a fortune for green fees. I have mates that play Newmachar too so get signed on there whenever too.

Nothing beats the 4-day open swing at Strathlene, Buckpool, Spey-Bay and Cullen. Guaranteed 16 rounds for £160 ish with prize money to go for.

Have you played Spey bay lately, has time i was there it was a bit of a state?

Lot of years since I pegged it up at the bay. Apparently it's coming ok again though.

Every year I go up there I say I'll play all 4 but then I qualify at either S'Lene or B'Pool and I'm too knackered for Spey Bay

you must have a better job than me buddy! £120 to me seems like an OBSCENE amount to pay for a game of golf.
That will be the most I have ever payed for a round of golf. There again I haven't changed my car in fifteen years, so I think it comes down more to how you want to spend your money, rather than how much you earn. If Carnoustie is anywhere near as good as the Old Course, it will be well worth it in my opinion.

There was a guy came on here a few months ago something to do with Spey Bay, PM'd Crawford and invited him up for a round i think.

It could be a lovely course, but needs a fair bit spent on it.

I'm lucky enough to have a mate thats involved with the Golf Ind and i geta few freebees every year, plus Nairn have a few decent away matches which I've been lucky to be selected for. We have a match coming up against the R&A again so fingers crossed.

Hoping to get Royal Aberdeen, Murcar and Cruden bay in this year as i've never played them. Infact the only courses i have played are Newburgh on ythan, Newmacher, Bachory and another course in near bachory that has just closed down, but i can't for the life of me remeber the name of.

I've not found green fees to be too expensive tbh.

We usually play later in the day so we don't get in the way of the more experienced/better players and our local course is £13 at weekends after 2pm. It's a nice course as well.

We can play at a really nice local course at the same times for around £20/£25.

 You are a guest at these courses, and you have to pay your own green fees? Some friends. If I invite friends then I would pay the fees, after all that is the meaning of "guest" isn't it?

Really? I pay out £850 fees, if my mates want to play I have no problem signing them in at half the price but I'm not paying for them too! I pay for my step dad as he and my mum obv help out with babysitting etc but that's it I'm afraid.

Actually below average for Leics.

I'm probably a little out of sync with rates having been a member for nearly 4 years I rarely pay green fees any more! When I was nomadic usually paid £25-30.

Signing in at ours is about £19 with a member at the weekend. You are welcome up at anytime!

im just away to join my local course this weekend it has 2 18 hole course and a nice 9 holer, it costs £150 to join the club but i have a council golf card and i can play in all the courses where im going to join as well as another 2 courses for £25 a month and i can phone up 48 hours before and book a tee time

Never played Cruden Bay. Murcar is good, Royal Aberdeen is immense, some course. I've never rated Newmachar much, just doesn't suit me. What did you think of Newburgh?? Won't be offended if you say it's mince.

You'll love Carnoustie, I've played 6 Open venues and it's my favourite of the ones I've played

get yourselves a county card (assuming your club and county are part of the scheme). Gets you access twice a year to a huge list of courses at members guests rates (costs about £12 and more than pays for itself in 1 use)

Yup - county card if you are a member of a club. Got mine. Huge discount on normal visitor green fees. One major benefit of being a member of a club and paying through the nose for the pleasure.

Also Open Comps. Tom Long Open two weeks ago - Minchinhampton Old and both New courses in a day - so three rounds of golf - foursomes - £50 a pair. Top value. And a great taster of the three. Either of new courses - normal weekend reound green fee £59, weekday - £49. With a County Card £28 all week. Does me just fine that when I get my County Card as part of my club membership.

It was a funny course, i thought the lower holes were great, apart from the damp ground. The others (the first few i think, werea bit field like, but a couple of good ones in there though.

the course did leave a bad taste in my mouth though.

I played there in the regional final of the Volvo match play the year before last agains one of your members. i was two up and then lost two balls off the tee which were hit straight down the middle due to standing water on the fairway, where my opponent hit two bad drives right and found both times and won the last with a long putt:(

Yeah 15 especially suffers with the wet weather, the last can as well. Yeah, you can tell it used to be a 9 holer and that the first 9 are the newer. It's a tough test, especially when windy, which it normally is. Who were you playing against???

I can't remeber his name but was off 10, a nice guy, said he played in the Volvo ( now Nike) every year and had got though to the main finals in spain a couple of times.

The highlight for me was hiting driver and wedge on a par 5 that was down hill. it landed on the path and ran up to the bottom of a raised green. Then drove though the 10 i think short par 4 (which must have been the old 1st)

quite enjoyed it really as its a course i wouldn't have played otherwise.
