I need your help do decide if I am mega peeved or not...

My Mrs works for a company that do an outing to The Grove each year, its Thursday this year, and they have just had a cancellation and very nice of them they asked he to ask me if I would like to play...

So asked my boss for the time off and was just shot down in flames...

Should I be peeved at missing out or should I be pragmatic that it's not that great despite the website looks?

Cheers all

I really rate it, and have played it loads. It's a fair test of golf, always immaculately presented, fantastic greens, expensive beer.

In your position, I'd have the hump. Especially if someone else was picking up the bar tab.

You shouldn't have asked, surely you had a bad stomach pain developing today?

I had to turn down a vendor corporate invitation to play there earlier this year. I was gutted, so I reckon you should be too.

is your boss a Mizuno fan and is disgusted that you swapped your mp 52 for TM Sh*te and didn't change your signature?

;);)

A load of us played it last year with GM (front nine). It is as Murph said, immaculate, well laid out and fair without being silly. It is very expensive but there are ways and days to play it for less money. My best mate was there a few weeks ago, they parked his car, took his clubs and cleaned them all(a first for him). At the first tee they give you a guide, tees, pencils, and anything you could need. They put a medal on your bag with your name on it and talk you through the first hole. They come round in caddy cars with refreshments and generally make you feel good. In short it is a treat. It is expensive, I think a coke and a mars bar was £7 or so.

On the down side it is a little perfect and maybe a little premiership footballery in its style, lovely non the less!!

If you are in Scotland it would have been a long trek so maybe not too upset, I would rather play Bearwood!

Cheers all, mixed emotion it is then... I could have gone down the stomach pain route but no doubt would have been caught out if someone tried to contact me (which invariably happens due to the workloads I have on).

Patrick.. Haven't swapped yet so sig stays :ears:

Played it last year in a corporate day and loved it.

Clubhouse and facilities are fantastic and the course is immaculate and testing without being too hard.

You should have chucked a sickie! ;)

I played it on Sunday, was in very good condition considering all the recent rain. Greens were pretty good, they were 10.5 on the stimp according to the information board outside the clubhouse.

As stated, they do make you feel special and the whole set up is very impressive. I've played a few of these big name 'american' style courses like the Oxfordshire and East Sussex, I was reasonably impressed with the course. Not my fave type of course (give me links/heathland any day) but I would certainly play it again!

One of the par 5's has 3 stone markers in the fairway which show where Tiger put his drives on the first 3 days of the 2006 Amex WGC where he eagled it each time.

He took a 3 wood off the back tees and the markers were waaay further than my decent drive off the front tees with a driver

Yes you should be peeved as it is an excellent course. Some good holes and in extremely good condition.

I agree with the posts above. The only downside is the price of food and drink which are way over the top.

I was there and saw him play the shot. He out drove Darren Clarke by about 30 yards and was way off the fairway in fairly deep cack and striped his 3 wood onto the green - the best shot I have ever seen!

Was that the day he didn't eagle the hole? 2 of the marker plates are fairly middleish of the fairway but one of them is right on the left edge. Just wondered if there was a bit of poetic licence in where they have put the plaques?
