Got a Society Day at Sandy Lodge, near Moor Park Tomorrow,

Looks like a class track from their web site

Anyone have any first hand experience there?

lovely track, few years since Ive played it but dont expect its changed very much. Good test of golf and excellent drainage, almost links like so is always pretty dry there. Enjoy :)

A good 17 hole course, run by a bunch of incompetent old duffers. I hate the place, despite the golf course. It has everything that annoys me about golf. A visitors car park, miles from anywhere, badly lit, no decent path to the club house. Call it over flow, fine, but visitors? No.

The club house often doesn't open til about half nine, despite booking societies from 8ish. They promise a bacon roll before play, but often don't deliver. They have a members bar area, with it's own door etc, which would be fine, but it is all part of the same bar, and is by far the best bit. They have a driving range (for members only). They move the yellow tees on the first 80 yards forward on society days, to give them an easier start. Who else ever uses the yellows? Due to their total incompetence in getting the club house open early enough they bung your tee time back to the point where not every ne can get round in daylight. They serve the wrong pre booked menu.

I could rant on all day really. It's all small stuff, but that's the most annoying thing, as it's easy to get right.

I have played there as a members guest, a club match, and a society, and every time they mess it up. I won't go there again.

Nice course though.

Played there once many moons ago... For me the course [best I had played at the time] overshadowed the clubs 'shortcomings'... I do know several that would second Murphs thoughts though...

Weather is currently looking good so I am sure you'll enjoy your day...

Murph, you say goos 17 hole course, is the little 90 yard par 3 the odd one out?

Fragger

Yes. It's stupid. The green slopes like the north face of the eiger. It's half a flick with a wedge, and then a lottery. I'm all for short par 3s, but that one is daft. The preceding par 3 is a golf hole.

I liked the course, clubhouse was nice and we had no problems with food or timings
Got 33 points which wasnt bad, felt like I could score on most holes

That little 93 yard par 3 is a tinker ,

The rest of the course was in pristine condition, considering the time of year, lovely layout and some very nice holes

I've never had less than 40 points round there, and it's always in great condition. I guess you were just lucky re the idiots who run it. I never have been, in about 8 visits. I was asked again about next Thursday, and blew it out.

Glad you had a good time.

I forgot about the speed bumps on the way in. My merc used to ground on every single one.
