I'm really starting to struggle with weakness & pain in my left knee nowadays, after 28yrs with no cartilage after rupturing my cruciate at 18.
Ive conceded to use a Powakaddy in the last year, and am trying to keep it strong with leg weights etc, but I fear that at some point in the future, a Knee replacement will likely loom.
I know they arent likely to want to do this for me at 46, but just wondered if anyone on here plays after having a replacement joint etc ?

A friend of mine plays after a partial knee replacement. Not exactly sure what he had done but I am seeing him later this week so could find out more then. He manages OK until he has to trample over the heavy and uneven rough when he finds it a little difficult.

I haven't a knee replacement, but I know some who have, and apart from the usual lay-off for healing, they seem to be managing well. The same seem true of hip replacements. It all depends on how you respond to the operation itself. I know that the surgeons don't prohibit playng golf after a reasonable time for healing.

a guy I play with occasionally has had one knee done and can't wait to get the other. He has been playing though two bum knees for a while, he's a little slower and needs the seat he has on his trolley.

My sympathies are with you,I play with no ACL in my right knee and am a similar age.
I know that being right handed it is easier for me than the left because the left has to take the brunt on the way through the ball.
My main issues are the pain and swelling after playing, but it is getting more and more difficult to walk courses.
I know nothing of your pain control regime but I am trying to build the muscle in my thighs and I use industrial amounts of Ibuprofen.
Good luck and good golfing!

I had my ACL replaced about 10 years ago, I'm 40 now.

Took a while to be able to walk without crutches, about 5 weeks, then almosta year of physio. Took probably 2-3 years to get near the kind of stability and strenght I used to have.

And that was with a lot of gym work.

I know the operation is hell of a lot better these days and nowhere near the amount of disruption as it was 10 years ago. But it's still quite a major op.

I have absolutly no trouble playing, occasional ache when it's cold. But apart from that it's fine.

But as I say I do go to the gym 3-4 times a week and run quite regular as well. So I maintaing good muslcle strenght to provide support to the knee as well.

I also stopped playing any contact sport as well. Mine was a footie injuray as most are.
