Anyone ever changed their shot shape?

I had a slight fade for over 20 years if I wanted one but mostly hit straight. I then had a very painful, full dislocation of my right elbow, the result being an arm that cannot be fully straightened any more.

Since then, I have had a draw and find a fade a hard shot to pull off too.

I have never really analysed this - it just happened and I got on with it, adjusting accordingly.

I always hit a cut fade slice depending on what mode I was in.

I tried to change it to a draw, I wanted to be able to hit a draw when required because in my head good players played draws. Turned out good players played with either shot shape and tend to stick to what they are good at.

So I still hit a fade cut slice and I'm just trying to keep it as consistent as possible.

Hi OP I've been doing what you say for a while now and like you getting far straighter ball flight with occasional hooks. It's a real confidence booster. My drives aren't huge but happy enough with them going 240-250 total.

Really it's a fix I'm happy enough with but I know in my head I'm still playing with a fault.

With my driver I have videod and no matter how hard I try I cast my hands out and lose power. This casting out gives me the dreaded out to in swing path but like you say if you aim alignment to the right but clubface to target and swing along alignment(or feel like I am) you create a draw and the club path is more in to out than the face.

It's still a "fault" though as you are losing lag with the cast- albeit a workable one. You should video yourself with parallel alignment and see if you are casting out too I suspect you will be

I use to play a draw but been trying to hit more fades. Has taken a lot of work re-learning the path for me to get it to work but it's far more consistent now and I've more or less eliminated the left side of the course now.

Just come back from practicing and I'm going to stick with what I have. The danger of the horrible hook that can creep in is just not worth it.

I usually play with a draw off the tee, strangely I find it easier to shape it right to left by aligning up the left with an open stance and pushing the ball out to the right.

I had a steady reliable fade for years with the same driver I've still got now.
Ive tried to get it back but Its just not there anymore. Nothing wrong with the draw but I just find a bit more margin for error with a fade.

That's just about it, only difference is I was closing the clubface at times which looking at the vid was a mistake. The aim in my head was still on the target, I just kind of setup to the right a bit and made sure I turned my hands over after impact. Instant change in shot shape, it was quite a shock, to prove it I changed back to normal stance and my usual fade was there.
Crazy.

Total rip off from another thread 

My usual shot shape is a slight fade (used to be a raging slice but it's improved greatly over the last year).
I was talking golf with a customer yesterday who said he'd turned his slice into a draw by aiming right but still thinking target.
I thought is was utter tripe until I tried it at the range last night, took me 5 or 6 shots but after that I was hitting draws ranging from slight to heavy depending on how far right I was aiming and how closed I held the clubface at setup. So how's that work then? I've never hit a right to left shot in my life until last night.

So anyone else have any weird shot shape moments?

The other trick is to move your right foot back a little, so your toes are not lined up. I have tried it a few times and it worked, but you have to be careful, because if you move it back to far, it creates a massive hook, well it did for me.
