Try and work this one out.
3 people share a hotel room for £30 a night (£10 each).
Later the manger realises the cost is only £25 per night, so he sends the porter up to the room with £5 change for the group. The group decide to tip the porter £2 out of the £5 and have £1 each back. In effect they have now paid £9 each for the room and tipped the porter £2 from the original £30. £9 + £9 +£9 +£2 = £29.
where did the last £1 go???
They each paid £8.33 plus the pound they got back which totals £9.33X3=£27.99 plus £2 tip =£29.99 rounded to the closes ten is £30.00!
They each OWED £8.33 (£25/3). They each paid £9, so they each tipped the porter 66 pence. £0.66 x 3 = the £2 tip. Same thing, but a different explanation.
