Try and work this one out.

3 people share a hotel room for £30 a night (£10 each).

Later the manger realises the cost is only £25 per night, so he sends the porter up to the room with £5 change for the group. The group decide to tip the porter £2 out of the £5 and have £1 each back. In effect they have now paid £9 each for the room and tipped the porter £2 from the original £30. £9 + £9 +£9 +£2 = £29.

where did the last £1 go???

no if you work it out £30 - 25 leave 5, 5 minus the 2 tipped to the waiter leaves 3. which is then shared between the 3 people. i think lol

room £25
per person £8.33 recurring.

porter brings back a fiver, and keeps £2.

therefore each person has paid ( plus tip) £8.33 plus 0.66, equals £8.99 plus £1 back from the fiver, equals £10. per person. total £30

There is no missing pound.

I think!!

Very good. I like these....some of them are darn hard.

The devil is in the detail. They don't actually pay the porter, they collect £3, which they divide between them. £10 each less £1 is £27 altogether.

If they've then spent £27 and the room was £25 where did the £2 go.....to the porter!!!

It's a very good one.

Blimey.....that's a calculator method (almost)

8.33 recurring. 0.66 here..... :)

Don't go near the £8.99....that'll frazzle my brain.....you're a penny out!

The room was £25, plus a £2 tip = £27. £1 each left over from the original £30. So they've only spent 3 x £9 which equals £27, plus £2 = £29 :D

Aaaarrrrrrrgghhh. It's still hurting my head. :D

RGDave - you deserve an award for clarity of thought and plain speaking explanations.

The manager receives £25. The porter receives £2. The guests get £3. £25 + £2 + £3 = £30 - Simple.

Here's a simple one.

A Titleist proV1, a Srixon Z-star, a Wilson Staff DX soft and a Nike Vapor ball(s) are laid out in a straight line . The Srixon is not at either end and is somewhere to the right of the Nike. In how many ways can the balls be laid out ?

Free sleeve of 3 x Donnay ti to the first correct answer.
