Has anyone joined a trade union or any recommendations on any.

I am about to leave my current employer who is in the middle of a pay increase but they are dragging their heels and being very shady about it.
On the other side, I'm about to join a new firm that is a very small business that's getting a contract of employment drawn up.

Just think it might be worth having someone to be able to check what goes through is all correct and if there do give me any problems with pay I could get some advice.

I used to be a member of the NUG, National Union for Journalists who couldn't spell.

You should always have a contract of employment after 13 weeks of being in any job, although it can be extended slightly in certain circumstances which would be explained to you at that time.

Not sure joining a union is the answer if you're just looking for peace of mind from the contract of employment or worrying about any potential future issues, especially if they're a small business, ask your parents if they know anyone in a professional capacity who could look over it with you when you get it or take it to CAB office.

I'm a member of the T and G, transport and general workers union. Have been for years. I personally wouldn't work in my workplace/industry without being in one. I pay about £3 a week in union dues

Just remember employers don't have to recognise union membership, it depends on the % of staff who are members. You need to find out what union if any is used by the majority of staff at your new place.
