Anyone a member at Mentmore?

I played the Roseberry course at Mentmore yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it (played the Rothschild previously and that was great too).

Like everywhere they're struggling to keep on top of the rough but I wanted to ask about the bunkers. Our group all went into a few bunkers during the round and we found that all of them have just a minimal amount of sand over the top of a hard base (maybe 1/2" of sand). I believe that this is the way that better players like them (and they've just had the Jamenga tour there) so I suspect that this may be deliberate but we struggled with them big time. Most of our escape attempts resulted in bouncing off the base into the side of the ball and thinning it across the green into another bunker

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the course in any way, I'm just curious if they've been purposely set up in that way?

Hi I am a member, as far as I know the lack of sand is because they didn't want them to get ruined with all the rain we had recently, however why they haven't had the sand replaced I don't know.

The jamega tour isn't even an excuse because that was played on the other course so the lack of sand is pretty unexplained. A lot of members struggle with it like yourself, me included ! Glad you enjoyed the round though

Thankyou for the reply. Good to know it's not just me that can't play out of those bunkers.

It looked like they had the full greens team mowing so hopefully they'll get onto sorting out the sand for you soon.

It is a lovely set up that you've got there. I get mail out now from Mentmore so we'll definitely be back again.
