Just moved to the Essex Herts border and played both new and old courses recently and was very impressed. Any members past or present who could provide an insight into what it's like as a members club? Thanks.

My mate moved there this year ... Very very busy at weekends... He's not impressed

Oh really? I know they now have 800+ members but would have thought having the two courses would mean a typical usage in terms of tee times and busyness. Does your friend play early at weekends?

I'm a member at a nearby club (Brickenden Grange). I was talking to a new member the other day and he said that he had joined us because Essendon had closed their members list for the time being.

The club has certainly changed a lot over the last couple of years - it has been taken over by the family behind Addison Lee and had a lot of money ploughed into it. There used to be a fantastic plunge pool in the changing room, but I'm not sure if it's still there.

Obviously I'm biased, but if you can't get into Essendon, come and look at Brickenden - lovely parkland course, beautiful quiet location, well kept with good greens, fairly civilised membership... Currently no joining fee. The website is here : http://bggc.org.uk/.

Played there in a pro am last year - nice course , I know it has had money troubles
and been through a number of hands. Clubhouse is very nice

Thanks for the suggestion Dave. I played Brickendon a few times during the summer and I agree its a great track. I will definitely research Brickendon further should Essendon not be an option.
