Any changes planned for your course?

Playing at the same course as Martyn (Beezerk) I cant wait for the new changes to be implemented. Sitting through the presentation got me really excited for the future ahead. We had the usual nay sayers at the meeting opposing change...but I'm hoping this wont cloud the judgement of the powers that be, as the feedback was 99.9% positive.

We can't make many changes to our course, as we get advised by the Harry Colt trust, and they like it to be as original as possible. Second hole is not a Colt hole, and I would like the tee to be raised ten feet, so it is not a blind tee shot. Also needs a couple of new bunkers left of the green to give it more definition.

We are looking at some new tees on 4,5 and 18, but would mean removing a lot of trees, and making hard holes even harder.

All bunkers are being improved, new grey sand which looks great, and a bit of re-shaping.

Course today was in great nick, especially the greens. I think I holed my first ever putt from above the hole on 18. Good job it caught the hole.

Some major works going on at our place, on Rosemount they are redesigning the 6th and 7th holes. They are raising and reshaping the tees, moving bunkers, changing the dog leg on 7 to left to right and lifting and reshaping both greens.

Some work on the tees on Lansdowne but other than that just the usual busy winter period for the greenkeepers.

The Rosemount in Blairgowrie?
We used to go to the Rosemount Hotel opposite the course quite often, used to love it there. I heard they turned it into a nursing home!

Talking to out head green keeper about a month ago. He was telling me that all the changes have to be done by the green keeping staff. He said that some of the original designs were "done on the cheap". You cannot argue with him. However we have a hole "Hallam Heights" which is a gorgeous par three down the hill. Pond to the left, and trees to the left of the tee. He said it is in the pipeline to have a tee in the woods on the left so the tee shot is over the pond. It will be gorgeous if that happens, especially if they get rid of the two Bob liner covering the pond.

I quite like that hole, if they move the tee box will it still be on top of the hill?

We're creating a level, accessible tee on the practice area as the club is looking to become involved in some of the disabled golfing initiatives.

Our greens chairman claimed that the bunkers were all to be refurbished with some also being re-positioned/extended, but nothing has happened on this as yet which isn't surprising given this winter's weather.

He's also suggested some changes to other parts of the course were to be made. Nothing has been announced officially, and based on what he told me (no recognised architect input, working groups to do the work) I'm hoping he was thinking aloud rather than telling me anything that constitutes any kind of plan.

We've got two new holes coming into play late May early June, taking the course from a par 69 to a par 71 off the whites, a new SSS will get calculated by the county and then officially by England Golf. In The run up to this coming May, over the past 12 months, we've had new bunkers put in, trees removed, new trees planted, new gorse getting planted, some bunkers removed, fairways getting reshaped by just simply not cutting the first and second cuts in straight lines, greens have been improved dramatically, with guidance from the STRI, also some new paths have been put in and the first tee box area smartened up.

Really looking forward to getting out on the course with the new holes in play, the new 5th especially, 200+ yds from the white down hill par 3, on windy days you'll be shooting from the highest point of the course, straight into the wind, which will make it play very interesting.

On top of that we're getting a covered 3 bay driving range, a purpose built putting and chipping area with bunkers and we're getting a new fitting studio built for the club pro to give lessons on a GC2 launch monitor.

This year at Whickham is looking good.

No major changes at Westerham, other than clearing out loads of scrub and brambles, a couple of Huxley tees and a Vet's Captain's parking space.
Oh and a brand new par 3 course opening in the summer!!

Our 1st tee has been extended about 25 yards backward making it a slightly longer lay up for most of us. Not quite sure why it was felt necessary.

if its anything like ours, it will be to make it harder for elite players, whats your total yardage with the increase?

We've had changes made to every hole over the last 3 winters.
This is the final stage and hopefully it'll bed in soon and the course will be better for it.
They've changed the style, shape, location and number of bunkers and done small amounts of shaping and tree removal in various places.
The aim is to make it tougher for elite golfers, especially as we're now an open qualifier venue, but easier for the shorter hitters and those who struggle most.

We're still short-ish by todays standards at around 6,600 with rather limited room for increases. So so too short for an elite gents event - ok for Ladies or Senior amateur events.

Plenty long enough on a day like today with 60mph winds & rain forecast  !

yes way too short, ours are thinking walker cup/ am champs again, but told 6800 is too shorts, so thinking of adding 300 yards to the course.

wish they would ask the members, I'm not sure many would agree with that.

But if it was only the Championship Tees that were involved, then there would be absolutely no change for the members!

Or are there too many with egos that tell them they need to be playing off the 'back' tees?
