Hi guys, I could really use some advice on my golf swing. I'm currently hitting the ball thin and getting rubbish contact with it as you will see in my second swing!

In the video I'm using a 5 iron.

any advice would be appreciated, don't be too horrible!

Club looks quite short to me. Experts will be on their way soon!

Edit: You get into some quite nice positions with your driver swing! Again i think thats possibly cause its a longer club and you maintain your spine angle quite well with it..like i said though not even close to an expert they'll be along soon mate

Hi Ollie,

I can see two things with your 5 iron video which are related.:

You are taking the club back too much on the inside. This is getting the club stuck behind you on the downswing and making you push your hips forward and jump up in an effort to get to the ball. This will be making it hard to hit the ball with good contact. Take a marker on your butt line at address and see how far you move forward from this at impact.

Another point is that you are a tall guy and would do better to stand a little more upright at address with the grip of the club a little further away from your legs and upright. Ideally you shuld have around a hands width between the end of the grip and your left thigh.

You need to make a better takeaway move that keeps the club more on plane. Look at this video, it should help you.

Looks pretty good. But my back hurt just looking at your set-up position. Very bent over. Were your clubs fitted for you? I would hope they are longer than standard and upright.

You have low hands at set-up.... is this to adapt to the clubs, or was that your natural position and the clubs fitted to suit that?

I recently bought the clubs second hand and haven't had them adjusted. If you think that looks painful you should see me with my pitching wedge! I'll try standing more up right, do you think this could explain my tend to shank the ball?

I went down the driving range earlier and managed to purch my phone on a bin to record this! I was trying to get a straighter takeaway but i'm still hitting it crap...

would be interesting seeing a side on video, im thinking your not pushing yourself forward enough on the down swing, getting your upper body over the ball, hence the poor contact

Here's a picture of you next to Stewart Cink who is 6'4"
Try and lift your hands up to get a better shaft angle and it will improve your posture.

On the chipping clip, if you place the mouse cursor where your hands are at address and leave it there, then watch where your hands come through at impact it will tell you why the ball shoots straight right.
