Looking to replace a 1-series BMW. It is a great car but now looking for something similar/cheaper. Should have 4 doors as it does school run (rules out a Porsche). Mostly used by the Mrs and needs to 50 miles daily motor way run (rules out the electrics?) + the weekend football runs.

For some reason, I always think the Auris may not handle motorway.. feels too brittle. Any views on the Auris Hybrid? The Mazda 2 is a good contender i say.

Anyone got a Volvo V40?

I meant to say Auris Hybrid. I always think of it as a Hybrid but I should have added that to the name.

I have driven the V40 as a courtesy car. Very solid, drives nicely. Very similar to an A3 I would say. If you can get a good deal on one then you are getting a quality car. Only point I would suggest is check out the rear headroom. I have a feeling it might be a bit tight but check that out for yourself.

I've just bought a Skoda Fabia Estate 1.2 turbo petrol. Really quick & over 40 mpg. Best car I've ever driven. I was totally anti automatic but got an auto at the wife's insistence. Loved it within 10 minutes & wouldn't have another manual. The gear changes are so smooth you don't notice. It's got the best engine & 0 to 60 mph performance of any car in its class.

Neighbour has had an Auris Hybrid for a few weeks and is more than pleased with it...
Has completed a few round trips to Southport in it [from London] and says it copes with these journeys well...
