Played at Roundhay this afternoon with my dad & son in not very favourable conditions, the forecast was only for an 8mph wind so where the force 8 gale came from I dont know!!!

Anyway, went out in 42 (par 35) with 19 points and I was quite annoyed, i'd lipped out 4 easy putts and pulled a lot of my approach shots left which I never ever do and lost a ball on the 5th!!

Sat and had a mid-round pint with my dad and then trudged off to the first to start again (its only a 9 hole course).

Started with a dodgy bogey that I scrambled well to get, then eagled the short par 5 2nd, birdied the par 3 3rd, a couple of decent holes and another lost ball on the 14th (same hole as the 5th grrrrrrr) and then birdied the par 4 17th and came home in 36, 78 in total (par 70, SSS 65) which equates to my best ever score.....44 points in total playing off my new handicap of 16!!

I've entered todays score into Golfers Diary and I now have a handicap of 15.6....so in 3 short months i've come down from 23 to 15.6

I cant wait to join Mid Yorkshire and get a real handicap!

Good man. I'm off for a chiiping lesson tomorrow and if its half as good as my putting one my short game will be red hot by next weekened. Stableford comp on Sunday and I just hope I strike it as well as I did round HTL's gaff last Sunday even if I couldn't score.

Bloody hell! Same old story. I just can't do it when it counts.
I scored 44 points last week on the sat in open play, i scored 37 at mid Yorkshire in the forum meet when i have never played the course before then i go round my track today in a comp and it all goes tits up.

I had 22 points after 9, then dropped to shots by the 17th tee, then i only scored 1 on the 17th.

I just need to score least 1 point on the 18th to beat my h/c; hit a great drive, Duffed my 4w, then hit my hybrid jsut stopping short of the green, all i needed to do was chip and put for 2 points.
Chipped not terrible to about 8 foot, left my put 2 foot short, went to tap it in and...... MISSED!

I don't believe it finished with 36 points, what a waste of time. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed it but it just really frustraghts me that i can't get my handicap down.

If i worked my h/c out including all open play i would be off about 15. As it is i'm stuck on 21 and having to put up with being called a bandit on a regular basis.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

;)

It will come just keep the faith. It sounds like you realised you had a good score going and were determined to get a mega cut and forgot to play each hole on its merits. It will come but you probably need to relax a bit and let the second nine flow

Great scoring Keef!

I had my best ever return on my home track today, like Timberbonce though, not in a comp :(

Went round in 90, which included an 8 on our reasonably straight forward 14th, went something like; sliced drive into a ditch, penalty drop (into deep rough), duffed 3 iron to behind a tree, 6 iron into tree trunk and a nano-second later the ribs!! chip out onto fairway, red faced 8 iron onto green and 2 putts for my 8 :(

On a positive note that was still 6 under handicap and equated to about 48 points from memory. SS2 just cut a chunk off my handicap for me lol

It will come mate (or should that be Gringo! ;) ) - from tee to green at Mid Yorks you played more like a single figure handicap!

"Gringo" Lol Thats exactly why i want to get my h/c down.
I did the same yesterday, from tee to green prety darn good (if i say so myself) still had a couple of 3 putts, a 4 putt and 2 thinned wedges.

Well done on the 90 by the way "Gringo" ;)

:p

Sadly it wasn't in a comp so counts for zip! :( Like you I just want my handicap to tumble, as proof to myself that my game is improving.

But having played with you, I can see that it won't be long before it all comes together for you - for us 'bandits' on high handicaps getting everything together on the same round is the hardest part, I find that when I am driving well and hitting my appraoches well my short game tends to struggle and vice-versa :D
