Annual subscription 2026

I tend to agree but the increase would have been greater, I guess, at 25 plus you'd be paying full membership for an additional 15 years. If golfers don't want to see a big increase at any age, then don't join a club when you are young.😗
That’s why I’ve no issue with a phased increment from 25-30 max to allow people to adjust. I see absolutely no validity in allowing it beyond that age despite arguments put forward.

As I said, I don't normally think of it as cost per round for those reasons, but as the cost inflates it's inevitable that those thoughts come into your head. (I have crossed out the two that don't really apply to me though, haha.)
Have you crossed them out as the club do not have them or because you do not use them?
I’m just trying to make you feel better about your membership cost.
I’m trying to decide to pull the trigger myself and it’s hard to work out if I’ll get value for money

You’re at Grims Dyke aren’t you or have I remembered that wrong.

That’s not far from Pinner Hill if your subs are going up to £1900, and you’re willing to pay it. Would it be worth considering a move to Pinner as that’s £1990 a year and a lovely course from what I remember with decent facilities. It’s been a while since I played it so I maybe remembering that wrong 🤣

It’s never easy though deciding if you were to move club as you’ve built a friendship group etc where you are.

Well there is kind of practice facilities but not good ones, I should have just crossed out the word 'good'. And the team matches are mid-week so don't really apply to me.

I actually really dislike the course at Pinner Hill, I've found it a bit of a slog.

Fair one like I said been a while since I played it but if it’s not for you that’s what matters.

It’s bloody difficult as it a big outlay for families. I’m literally pulling the pin this week setting up a membership for the first time in well 7 years now! I live just off the M3 on the Surrey/Hants border (Hants side for me just). Cost of memberships ranges from affordable but often average courses & facilities to needing to sell a kidney or one of my children.

I’ve managed to find a little gem of a place for a really good price with everything I need just minutes from home but I probably wouldn’t have even considered it without doing a ridiculous amount of shopping around and seeing how much some places think they’re worth whilst offering so little value to me.

Do any of your clubs offer any perks for paying early? If we pay about a month early (not sure of exact dates from last year) we get entered into a draw for free membership the following year, as well as some other prizes such as bar credit and maybe a new driver. - again can't remember back to last year :ROFLMAO:
as per my previous post....if we pay early, we pay last years rate....saves £100

As an aside to the main topic, do any of you not use your membership all year round?

I know of 5 friends (not all at my club), who don’t really play in the winter at all, and also will often miss large chunks of the ‘golf season’ due to playing other sports/activities/coaching their kids.

Seems madness to me. They’re probably getting 15-20 rounds in over the year, I’m playing near enough 3 times as many.

I wonder if clubs factor this into their strategy, knowing that a chunk of members won’t even use the course all the time. Maybe that’s why there’s a discount for under 30s-40s?

Membership costs have increased way above salaries and inflation since Covid. Our has gone from £1,450 to £1,750 in the last 2 years. This year's fees haven't been announced yet, but many I know are bracing themselves, while others have left already. Their argument being that if membership costs are going to increase so much, they might as well pay the extra somewhere else, so they've gone to Chart Hills.

If they made the fees linked to how much people play, then 5 day and senior membership fees would be much more than the rest of the categories :ROFLMAO:

My first club was a links course, everyone played all year round. That ingrained into me 12 month golf. My previous club, I was staggered by how many people completely stopped playing in early October and would not return until late March. Mind blowing when you consider the cost.

At my current place, a few disappear but on the whole most will play all year around, with some weather caveats.

Not a chance. If there's ever a time where I'm not playing golf every weekend, then I'll certainly cease paying for a golf membership. Would be different if it was only like 800 quid though, that would be fine.

At what point does anyone here say to themselves, I'll leave my current club and go somewhere cheaper, even if I know the course isn't as good?

I agreed with the other poster above. I would personally say 25 yrs old, Max 30!

But that’s just my opinion I’m sure loads will shoot me down and disagree.

i would be happy around 27 or 28 - going beyond 30 is just taking the pee out of the full paying members who are supporting full grown adults who could be earning significantly more than themselves and some could even be grandparents!

That’s why I don’t mind extending to 30 as it’s defined cut off. But I totally agree with why you said about subsiding fully grown adults who are in a very good age bracket to be earning.

From where ?
It would depend on what the overall package upgrade was.
For me the only upgrade round here would be one of the links courses.

I was chatting to a couple of the guys at the club before Xmas...pondering the subs question.
We're going to be around £2100 next year. One of them wondered if subs were increased to 2500 what would happen and would we pay it..
We'd, obviously, lose members who couldn't afford/justify the extra but would the extra paid by the remaining members make up the shortfall and eneab,e the club to keep the course as is with the advantage of fewer players meaning easier access....
On reflection I'd almost certainly pay the extra but it's a gamble,e - lose too many members and the cash flow suffers...
I know that there are some members who would raise it to 5k to keep member numbers down.....

I would compare the potential membership fees to other courses. If your membership fees go up to £2,500, where else could you join for similar? Is it better than where you are? The group I play with would mostly leave together in these circumstances, so it wouldn't be a choice of leaving people behind and having to start afresh.

£5,000 a year for me would have to be top 50 in the country territory with full practice facilities and 36 holes.
