Annual subscription 2026

Ours haven't been announced yet, since renewal is at the end of April / start of May. But it has gone up £80-100 every year since I've been there, so I'll be expecting similar again.

Next year will be a bigger jump though as I'll cease qualifying for the under 40s discount rate. That will be a bitter pill to swallow. Might genuinely be the time when I can no longer afford it.

Maybe you can ask how much just to to be a member of the putting green and learn how not to keep leaving them short 🤣

This is one of my annoyances with a lot
Of clubs having tiered subs for adults over 25. At 39yrs 364days your membership is X amount of pounds. The next day it Y amount of pounds but also happens to be a significant increase to the individual. Who largely is no better off at all they just happen to have had a birthday and may then be priced out of continuing to be a member.

Queue all those in favour coming and defending its benefit and need. I genuinely don’t care the reasons I won’t be budged that a 40year old man has to pay more than a 39year old etc!!

I can't complain when I've benefitted from the lower rate the last five years though. Nothing ever last forever. 😄 That rate was a big reason we even chose this particular club, it made it a fair bit cheaper than other local clubs at the time. But with the yearly rises it's now similar to all the others anyway.

That's an issue for lots of golfers (and clubs)

My local club has reduced rates only to 30, then it goes up by £450pa. Not to be sneezed at

Sod that complain man! You have every right to you’ve earned it by turning 40! 🤣

That’s what annoys me so much about it !! It’s not small jump especially for a parent.

Boo hoo! You know it's coming, save up for it over all the years you've been getting it at a reduced rate!
Boo Hoo! What are you 12!!

Regardless of saving up for it I wouldn’t join the club! It’s not just about the increased rate. I’d already be in that bracket so the increase wouldn’t affect me 👍

It’s the principle of people paying a significant amount less than me for exactly the same amount of golf and privilege. It works both ways! If you’d like to then state but younger people earn less. I can guarantee you I know people a lot younger earning a damn site more.

Edit: for sake of transparency. I’m suggesting he complains because either everyone pays the lower rate including the over 40s or everyone pays the higher rate. Because either way neither member is getting more for their money so either one’s over paying or the other is under paying but shouldn’t be subject to a hike of potentially 33% in their subs (if he paid £1500 and now pays £2000 as an example)

Not been a discounted rates moan for a while

It’s been statistically proven that offering reduced rates encourages younger people to take up membership and also stay at the club when they go past the age they are no longer eligible

For us we increase the under 30’s each year so the jump to full membership isn’t so big

I absolutely have no problem with lower rates for younger members in any shape or form.

But I think it's laughable when people complain when they have to pay the same as the majority of the membership!

All depends on circumstances. If money is tight, the golf subs are lower down the priorities list than eating and heating.

Maybe there's a case for means testing the subs, rather than age scaling? I have seen a club in Cornwall that says if you cant afford the subs, come and talk to the secretary

I made a quip on another thread about Perranporth charging £800 a year. Peanuts (relatively) for someone on a good wage, but way out of reach for others.

It's tough out there. Thankfully cheaper routes do exist these days.

100%. I’m ok with under 25s or so getting a discount but 40 year old people are probably early as well as they ever will, so should be paying full price.

Just checked my club and the discounts stop at 25 which is understandable as it’s cheap anyway. At 25 last year you would be paying £642 and a full member was £747, that’s including England Golf and county fees.

I played with the finance guy a few weeks ago and he was saying prices will need to go up in April due to minimum wage (the club pays everyone slightly above minimum wage and will increase the same), NI and electricity costs.

That to me is a realistic age for it to stop rather than carry on all the way to 40. At 25 most people are earning and out of education etc.

I’m not surprised at the increases across the country increased wages and overheads etc. I certainly think it’s a rough time for the leisure industry as a whole with the way things are going.

My old place it stopped over 30 but by that time you were only paying £60 less than full fee anyway, it increased roughly £50 every year from 21 to 30 which is OK.

Getting a discount until 40 seems mental to me.
