Annual Review

Do supplementary scores count and qualifying scores though? I was under the impression only competitions qualified for handicap purposes?

Been to the Pub for lunch?

What would be the point of a Supplementary if it wasn't Qualifying?!!! Of course the A/R uses Supplementary Cards!

Funny you should mention that :D

I was always under the impression (.... Wrongly by the looks of it) that they were used by people who, for whatever reason, would struggle to play enough qualifying competitions to maintain an active handicap, not for review purposes.

Well that IS the, or at least a major, reason they implemented. But the simple fact that they are 'Qualifying' means that they are included in the A/R.

Got a copy of my playing record today and still hoping for an A/R Cut although it's not processed until early Jan. Attached (hopefully) is a copy of my playing record...any experts think yay or nay to a cut?? Hmmm can't attach a pdf so will try and copy! Let's see if this works and is legible...

Edit - prob too small - what a luddite I am sometimes!!

Umm I would say possibly not but wouldn't be surprised by a one shot cut

Thanks. I do wonder if my 2 shot cut would prohibit any more but can have a teensy bit of hope. Should have played more qualifiers but somehow didn't/couldn't and the season was over!

Looks likely - just. Though I don't know if there's a different formula for Ladies.

Average expected to be 14.06 over CSS - 10.1; Actually 10.875. Flagged if <11.06

Good chance I would think but I do have to be a bit pushy with our lady member on the hc committee even when the name comes up on the report.

Thanks guys. Have already expressed my interest to the handicap secretary and she knows I'm hoping for a cut. My only concern is an inter club comp where the lowest handicap allowed is 10 so hope they don't decide at committee to ignore a suggested cut! Unlikely but thought it best to highlight my interest...

Very funny reading you go up 0.1 all year cos you play poor golf yet want a full shot cut for nothing or cutting anyway why should you just go out play good golf and you will feel better about yourself getting the cut rather than begging it

What?!

Edit - to hell with it I'll bite. The whole point is not one single 0.1 on (read the playing record before commenting) and the annual review is there for a good reason - read the Congu guidelines...or instead just don't do either and post an inane comment.

fwiw I read this to suggest you were better than 12 & could be better than 10 but are yet to prove it....having the -7 when you did I would be inclined to let the system continue to handle you ie if you shoot a -4+ in the next few rounds the systems going to get you down to 7 anyway so why interfere?

just my 2p

That is a fair comment Duncan. I guess it's because I am playing way better than 10 albeit in fun/swindle games and, whilst being called a bandit is a backhanded compliment, it does get a wee bit tiring.

Ah. The equivalent of The Pearson Trophy!

Comps like these are great, but can be the cause of some very dodgy (imo) Competition Results and A/R decisions. Better, imo, to change the Rules slightly to allow some leeway for this sort of thing, while still targeting the desired level players - like at least 6 months at 10 or more with 9, or maybe 8, being the low boundary.

Agreed. This is played off "scratch" in handicap bands so I think something like 10-16 (2 players) 17-24 (3) and 25-36 (3) - there or thereabouts. There had been talk of reducing the lower limit to 9 and jigging the other bands but not sure if it's in this year. Either way by the time the semis come around I'm expecting to be below 10 :-)

Is that is response to Amanda ?

It appears looking at her playing record she had no .1's going up and only reductions ?

It makes a refreshing change to see people actively looking for a cut instead of winning of incorrect handicaps

Thanks Phil - still smarting about the post which appears to be directed at me but who knows :-)

Means there's no incentive for an individual to go lower than the boundary and a real temptation for a Club to 'manage' certain handicaps! I'm as certain as I can be that happened at one previous club!

Duncan's comment is, as usual, quite sensible. You are only just 'flagged'. However, the ESR Trigger will disappear on Jan 1 (it's done by Calendar Year) and presumably (if the A/R is about to happen) there are no more qualifying comps.
