analyse my swing

Hi all,

I took up golf for the first time 9 months ago, but really starting to enjoy it now, next year ill be looking at joining clubs and also having a few lessons, in the meantime I am trying to improve my game by watching youtube videos. I'm currently playing off an high handicap but I am hoping to improve on this before I the beginning of next year.

hopefully a few tips from you guys may help me along the way.

below is a recording of my swing, I currently struggle with consistency and also a get a hook occasionally.

Thanks in advance.

Quite from the inside and than a little stuck and over to top. Whats the ball flight like? Good one a little draw? Bad one a pull hook?

What is your destructive shot? The one that means a reload.

That is one mighty strong grip you have there which could explain the hook but not always the case.

Also interesting at address your leaning the shaft from the face on view quite ahead of the ball which could be to negate the grip and face control or just something you have always have done. Slight shaft lean with the irons slightly but you wont see the best drivers of the ball setup like that as a rule of thumb. If your into the whole youtube I would check simple grip videos and driver setup as a little start and then just put your normal swing on things and go from there. I find when I am playing badly its because I have fallen into bad habits which are simple things for me.

One absolute truth I can say it get a lesson from a pro, they will fix you not the internet. As say this as I mentioned strong grip above but did not stop Paul Azinger being a decent player ;)

when strook well its a slight pull, but occasionally I get an awful hook, I've found that when I swing from inside to outside it does prevent the hook, but it feels like I'm dramatically aiming right. if that makes sense?

Hmmm does it make sense... YES. Its how I play golf :D

As has been said above, your grip has something to do with it and coming from the inside is another factor. These things are not necessarily a bad thing if not too extreme. Yours is pretty extreme (as is mine).

Try gripping and thinking about the back of your left hand mirroring the face of the club at impact. Also note on your first video you get so inside that you get stuck and cant get your hands passed your hips so your shoulders go over the top. Not a good deal and that's the big pull hook. I cannot stop getting inside so I try to make my first move from the top a move downwards thus not going over the top.

In truth, dont ask too much on here, know your tendencies and see a pro or learn how to coach your self.

Definitely get a proper lesson, trying to adjust too much on your own is likely to be pointless, I thought I hit the ball pretty well and had a good swing until my first lesson, I still have a video of it and the difference between then and now is hilarious 😅

Good luck

There's quite a lot going on there.
Here's a few tips which will help.
Set up.
As mentioned already the grip is too much 'clockwise' which isnt ideal.
Try and get your shoulders in a similar line to your feet.

Swing
Again a lot going on but from the face on view, see how much your head moves away from the ball on the backswing. This is a big no no. Try and keep the head still on the backswing and that will make a great improvement to your consistency.

So, more neutral grip and shoulders at address and head still during the backswing.
Thats enough to be going on with. When you're confident with that, see a pro about fixing your swing path.

OP - as "bobmac' rightly says there's a bunch of stuff goin down in that swing motion - that's for sure a lot to do with golf being counterintuitive, and grip and set-up real important - but you're athletic probably have decent hand eye co-ordination so stuff will improve ... if you start by following the outlines given to you in the above quote .... it's sound advice

then go get some lessons
