listening to the radio heading up to Tain Yesterday, Angus Deayton was a guest and talking about doing shows of the old Radio show Radio Active.

Got me thinking, he was fired some 17 years ago never seen or heard of him in that time. a long time to be in exile, for a bit of cheating and recreational Drugs use. others have been forgiven for much less.

what are others opinions?

He's done loads in the intervening years. He's worked in at least one series a year, across a multitude of different programme types. Sometimes as a presenter or host, some sitcoms. He's even starred in a film, as well as writing and performing in some of his own stuff.

As for his slip up way back; doesn't appear to have hurt him at all.

Can't believe that its 17 years. You are right, many have been forgiven since for less and its certainly time to give him another chance.

Were you heading to the Glenmorangie distillery, or is there a golf course at Tain?

aha yes nighty night remember him in that, but never heard of any of the others TBH

Agree, never heard of him either since his fall from grace. I loved him on have I got news for you. Its clear hes been working but not on my radar either. Think he's talented - liked his dry wit and sense of humor. Though he was hard done by. Done his crime and his time several times over

If I remember correctly he committed his crime, was caught and then did a repeat shortly after. Once he could have ridden out, twice in close proximity was pretty stupid.

Unfortunately for him it stuck and whilst he has done plenty he has never regained his peak billing. A number of the parts in Hobbit 's post are for an episode here or there, not a lead role in a full series. It could have been worse for him, he could have been Barrymore.

Agreed and in the Barrymore case it became Barryless.

I personally am surprised they have never had him on HIGNFY again. They must have considered it given the number of guest hosts they get each year and that it would probably drum up a bit of interest in the show again. I'd guess this is because he isn't / wasn't well liked by the production team and Paul and Ian.

Like you say, even 17 years ago someone in entertainment could have survived a similar scandal but it's probably telling the fact he didn't, and that he has never really got a high profile regular gig again.

It was a peak time program and well watched back then. TBH we drifted away from watching it after a few of the guest hosts, lost its chemistry and i wouldn't say we ere fans of his.

i did have a look after Brian had posted his infinite knowledge of AD;)on what he had done a it appear he was asked back but refused

Paul Merton savaged him pretty badly when he kept presenting after the scandals, just before he finally left. It looked a bit deeper and sharper than jokey banter so I am not surprised he has not gone back, even as a guest. It looked like there were some underlying tensions there.

I like the way the presenter rotates now, it keeps it fresh
