My Old Course experience at St Andrews

Nice write up Bratty, I myself will be hoping to get a game at the end of the month. I've got the hotel booked and will be hoping to be slotted in with someone. IF not, I will play the other courses and try again another time.

I loved it. So much atmosphere even on a cloudy weekday morning with no-one bothered about the golfers and just going about their business but as soon as you peg it up there is an aura. If you can't hit the 1st and 18th then you really do need to think about another pasttime. I was more worried about an air shot or fatting it some 100 yards and leaving a big divot on the tee. Cracked a three wood away lovely.

Sounds great and having a nice round always helps the mood.....must get down there later this year although I am not the best in the morning.

There must be a service where you can pay some student or other to queue for you at some un-Godly hour and get you on? Does anybody have a number? ;)

Welcome to the 'club' Bratty. Pleased you enjoyed it, and good write up.

I was there 7 years ago with my lad for his 16th birthday, and we have a picture of us both stood together on the Swilkin Bridge. Even a cynical Old Fart like me found the atmosphere overwhelming, and neither of us could finish our lunch before we teed off.

For any golfer with any feelings for the game I'd recommend a trip there... you'll be blown away.

Glad you enjoyed the 'experience' Simon. I am already planning our return trip next year. Did I mention I shot a gross 80 when I played the Old Course and a gross 76 on the New. Loved all the holes, but my favourites were the 1st, 14th, 17th and 18th. 14th is the best par 5 I have ever played. When I chipped from the back of the 18th I had a large crowd about six feet behind me breathing down my neck.

Still can't believe that some golfers don't like the course. Like Dodger I would happily play my last round of golf there.

very nice write up, no piccies?

I've never played the course, one day hopefully
As I wasn't expecting to play, I didn't take a camera. However, two of the others were snapping away and promised to send me the pics. When I get them, I'll post some.
