Just a wee thought for any of you keen on your Android phones.

If you are planning to upgrade your phone's software, don't rely on the manufacturers back-up app or PC backup software to save everything.

I did HIDs Sony Ericsson and it all came back to life, apart from 8 years of contacts lost forever.
Thanks Sony....you really are a bunch of muppets.

If you want to do this, sync everything to an online source, then backup using whatever system you want.

It seems it happens on Sony, and LG, and Blackberry and....well the list goes on.

Why didn't I google "lost contacts after Android upgrade". :(

First thing I do on any upgrade is backup my contacts. Your phone is hehaw unless you know who your calling or receiving a call\text from.

Hardly rocket science.

On Android you can set a new contact as a "Google Contact" and it saves it to your Gmail account. This automatically syncs when you enter that e-mail back into your phone.

Yes, but the point I was making is that using the manufacturers backup is no guarantee of success. I backed up the phone data to the memory card and even copied the entire memory card to another PC. Still didn't do the job, hence my post.

HELP! My missus now wants to use the google sync (Sony Ericsson are discontinuing their own sync service) and now it would some people are losing their contacts doing this as well.

Sounds well dodgy, should I risk it?
