I don't doubt claims like ... I consider myself a short hitter, about 145-150 yards for a 6 iron and + or - 10 yards per club on average. However I have a friend I regularly play with and I've seen him comfortably hit 220 with his 6 iron (he cleared the back of a 225 yard par 3 last October).
We've both only been playing a year and are both very similar scorers usually hitting between high 90's or low 100's but our games couldn't be any more different. I'm short but pretty straight where as he's long but waste's shots getting out of trouble.
The thing I hate is is that people who post threads like this think hitting big is the be all and end all... fortunately I'm glad to say most big hitters I've actually played with are either modest with it (if they regularly hit the fariway) or know where there problems lie (if they are regularly in the rough / trees).
