Okay, confession time. Heres the good, bad and ugly for the year so far according to the world of Scoresaver 2.

I'd be interested if you come to the same conclusions that I have! For those that have had the dubious and eronious pleasure of playing with me will generally have an idea of how I was playing last year!

It would be interesting to see what else folks have got for this year so far. Those that had had the opportunity because of the weather that is!

Well here's mine over 12 rounds this year...

Fairways hit - 48% - 12 h/cap
Greens in Reg - 32% - 10 h/cap
Putts per round - 30.17 - 6 h/cap
Birdie conv. - 13% - 16 h/cap
Par Scrambles - 36% - 7 h/cap
Penalties - 0.08 - Pro
Driving Distance - 242yds - 7 h/cap
Sand Saves - N/A

My problem is converting birdies. I'm just not getting my irons close enough to make enough of them. Pleased with the rest of the stats though. Not been in a bunker all year so no stat there - that's done it. I'll be in a dozen next time out....

Graham - keep out of the bunkers, work on your chipping and stop driving OB!!

My stats look half decent so far. Seen me take third in the monthly medal (with the lowest gross too). Still using the 30 day trial of this software.

Ha... its only 5200 yards, i only hit 6 drivers and hitting 9iron / wedge into most greens. I hit a load of mid irions off the tees. :)

I posted earlier today i need to move clubs in a couple of years. I'll be surprised to play to handicap round a new course thats a proper length, don't worry about that!

Graham - keep out of the bunkers, work on your chipping and stop driving OB!!

The penalties have been a bit of a killer, always have been. But it's improved from where it was! The cause is generally because I don't play my usual swing, and try hitting it to hard. When I slow it down it works fine. Temptation and all that.

Pitching has improved, but at the expense of the chipping. Time to get out a V-Easy again! I don't tend to hit too many bunkers and 99% of the time come out cleanly, just not near enough the hole to make a sand save.

I think it's the putting. The first putt, this year is getting so close to the hole generally, just not in it. Except on a couple of occasions a round. But mostly it's just a tiddler for a second. With the odd 3 thrown in just to hack me off.

My most wasted shots are trying to skin it off the tee, and the half chip, half pitch effort at short distances. Though I think it's not been helped this winter by the rather boggy conditions around the front of the greens. (We don't have white lines in front of the greens at our place!)

Stats can't quite tell the full story, but it's a very useful metric as a comparison. Both for me and what others achieve.

Key stats for Martin Bedborough (Hcap: 11)

Fairways Hit: 40% (Hcap Std: 16)
Greens In Reg: 21% (Hcap Std: 13)
Putts Per Round: 33.33 (Hcap Std: 15)
Sand Saves: 17% (Hcap Std: 10)
Birdie Conversion: 4% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Par Scrambles: 19% (Hcap Std: 16)
Penalties Per Round: 0.50 (Hcap Std: 5)

Rounds Recorded: 6

The conclusion is pretty simple. Not hitting enough fairways and therefore not making enough GIR's. The putting is starting to come and will get some more work on it now the lighter nights are coming. Par scrambles will improve now I've had my short game lesson and I can work on that too

Driving Distance: 244 (Hcap Std: 7)

100% fairways hit and you drive it nearly 250 - I think that may be a NEW WORLD RECORD!

NB: The fairway is the bit with the short grass

Hi graham not played enough full rounds to post stats but I do record them so you can rest assured there's a higher handicapper than you doing it! From your stats chipping is impacting in you big time! Have fun with the V-Easy!

My driving has been brilliant. That was from 5 rounds and haven't missed a single fairway. I have had another 3 bounce games where I have probably made 80ish% of fairways.

100% of fairways over 5 rounds: perhaps we should introduce a level above ** pro ** in the stats for that.

Just a note for those that bother to record penalty strokes: an out-of-bounds counts as 1 penalty shot, not 2.

We had a big debate about this: one side says "You are playing 3 off the tee, so you have 2 penalties". The other side (the one that won the day) says "Ah, but you hit the ball with your first shot, then had a single penalty shot, then hit your third shot off the tee so only one penalty".

Here's a bizarre (made up) situation followed by some questions:

I drive the green on a short par 4. Trying to hole a long eagle putt, I putt off the green into a bunker for 2. I then leave it in the bunker for 3. For my fourth shot I stick it in the hole for an unlikely par.

1. Did I hit the fairway ?

2. Did I hit the Green in Regulation ?

3. Did I have a sand save ?

4. Did I have a par scramble ?

I would think that the system should record a Yes, NO, Yes and Yes
