An eagle, a cut and a question about ESR

top stuff Hawkeye - cat 1 in sight

feel sorry for whoever has Hawkeye in the hcap challenge :p

Don't feel sorry for them. it's Jimbob who's been burning it up himself.

We started with him at 9.3 and me at 10.0
We now stand with him at 7.2 and me at 6.5

Well it seems my recent form has been good enough for an ESR reduction of not one but TWO shots and my new handicap after this weekends competition is now 6.5, 24 days ago I was off 10.6.

6.5

Great shooting mate, and I have some even better news for you - I've had a mare this weekend, properly toys out of the pram stuff.

As it stands I'm now going to be 7.4 I think. Off on holiday for a week on Friday so will have some time away from it and see if the form returns Then I can start my pursuit of your 6.5! (Just don't go any lower whilst I'm away).

Well done again fella.

That's cracking news for you. Well done. Now that going to take some getting used to.

Cheers Jimbob. I was honestly beginning to think I was fighting a losing battle chasing you. It seems your handicap has dropped every time I look!! I have a comp on the 8th but not sure if I will be able to play due to work but I'll be happy with the buffer if I do. I'm off on holiday for a week after that so no more comps until 27th June so you should have time to catch up.

I think it's safe to say whoever wins our little battle has earned it!!

I think someone's out to get you - with a sharp knife. The 2 rounds which triggered the ESR recommendation (nett differentials of -6 and -4) would have produced an ESR recommendation of 1 stroke reduction. I can only assume that your Handicap Committee decided on a further 1 stroke reduction under General Play. Whatever, the outcome is a happy one for you - keep up the good work.

That's what I thought at first but there's a little oddity that comes into play. The 32 points on Saturday saw my exact h'cap go up from 9.4 to 9.5 which means although I scored 40 points for the purposes of the competition in round 2 (Both rounds had to be played off of starting h'cap), for h'cap purposes it is 41 points meaning the Nett differentials are -6 & -5 (5.5) and an ESR cut of 2. I was going to explain it here but it got too complicated!! Anyhow, since you mentioned it, it seems that my poor 9 holes on the front nine of the 1st round cost me winning the comp (I was 3rd overall, 3 points from 1st) but did me a favour in terms of h'cap.

If I had scored 15pts (36 overall) on the front nine of round 1 I would have won the comp but ended up with a handicap of 7.6. (Buffer zone round 1 leaving me at 9.4, a cut of 0.8 for round 2 taking me to 8.6 and a 1 shot ESR taking me to 7.6)

As it was, my 11pts (32 overall) on the front nine of round 1 gave me a 0.1 increase for round 1 taking me to 9.5, a 1.0 shot cut for round 2 taking me to 8.5 and a 2 shot ESR taking me to 6.5 :D

I hope that makes sense, it took me a while to work out.
