An After Round Beer

Having read a few posts on here about enjoying a drink or 2 after a round I was wondering how people do it, especially at this time of year with the number of police looking to stop motorists. Now in my case the course is right on the A1 and on a busy section as well. As such I can never have more than 1 beer and probably will not even have that. I know quite a few members who will have a few drinks and take the risk but not me. So what do the rest of you do, stick to one or maybe 2 pints, have someone to pick you up or do you live near enough to the course to stagger home or taxi it?

I am not being puritanical about this or in any way judgemental. I just hear about perfect days down the club with a number of beers after a round and I wonder how realistic this is bearing in mind that most clubs are out of town and several miles away and most of us need a car to get our kit to the club.
 
I never drink booze after a round. I always find that if you're driving, that first pint tastes like nectar and it's very, very difficult to stop.

I've just read that back and I sound like a right alcoholic!! :)

I'll have a shandy at a push but normally a pint of lemonade and lime.
 
A couple of shandies is the most I'll have after a round.

Nothing refreshes like a shandy and in any case, I can't say I've ever felt like having a heavy session after a round.
 
A shandy with my Baguette and chips. Nothing more.
Been there and done that and I wont be doing it again.
2 years ago one Driving Instructor from round here was at his Club's Xmas dinner and he had a few too many. He only lived a mile or 2 from the course so he risked it.

He hit a lampost, got collared, lost his licence as well as being thrown off the Driving Instructor Register. He can reapply to become a DI in another 8 years! He'll be 64 then.
A 27 year career pissed up against a wall.........
 
Used to have 2 Guinness after every round not now,the penalties are to great if i lose my licence.Diet Coke or a coffee as its 6 mile drive from my club to my house.
 
our club is up a lane, and the police have been known to wait at the bottom with the breathalyser on several occasions.

doesn't stop several of the members having more than they should before chancing their arm (particularly some of the older guys, funnily enough).

I tend to arrange a lift if I know I'm having a good drink, or just stick to one otherwise.
 
I'll usually have a couple after a round on a summer evening, its a perfect end to a perfect evening, sat watching the sun go down after a great bit of banter and some good golf.
If I play in the morning, or finish mid afternoon, I might have 1, otherwise it just sends me to sleep when I get home !

That said, my 1.5m drive home is on very quiet roads, so I'm a little more relaxed about it than perhaps I would be if I had to use the A1.

As for this time of year, fat chance, our course has been closed for weeks, with no signs of re-opening !

I never have....Having had an uncle as an alcholic and him putting the fear of god into me since i was a nipper telling me that if he ever caught me with a drink in my hand he'd kill me stone dead.......

He's dry now 36 yrs its a coincidence as im 36 next week....

But one question i would like to know the answer to is why cant a drinker just have a fizzy instead of a pint....Is it really that hard to give into temptation...
 
Only ever have one if I do want to stay for a few the Mrs will always drop me off as its only 4 miles away.

Did arrange a game in Nov in a 4 ball at 0800 woke up still very pissed up so did I drive??

No I got the push bike out of the shed carry bag on the back and off I went. Lads wet them self when they saw me ride up car park bag and all.
 
I'm lucky in that I live about a 2 min walk from the club, so its not a problem if I want a few beers after a round. As mentioned in an earlier post some of the older members at the club definately have too much to be driving.
 
Every other sunday i drop my kids off at my mams while i play golf and my tart is working so i usually have a pot of tea or something cold non alcoholic.

On the other sundays i usually get a lift so i can have a few pints afterwards and watch the football. I have had to abandon the motor on a few occasions after having a few too many but i'm only about 10mins from home.

If i got caught drink driving i would lose my job so i don't do it.

Sounds like my club ! I have a couple of shandies, but would never get too near the limit. Bigger problem is speeding as all the local roads alternate between 30 and 40 mph limits. Our club is near the army town of Bordon, and i have never seen so many police cars in such a small area. Just a warning for the forum meet!! ;)

I drive every day at 6am so dont touch it thru the week.

Weekend is my time to have a sherbet or 2.

There's one guy at my club that drinks bottles of beer/lager
during his round, and has a couple of pints after. That amazes me , especially these days.

I have a strict policy of not drinking at all if I have to drive. I don't drink much anyway so it would affect me quicker than most.

I'm not being holier than though, but think there should be a zero policy for drink when driving. That way there can be no arguments. If you drive, don't drink, simples.

Just reading back through the Posts there i have to apologise to GB72.....My reply looks like it was pulled from the sky

Im trying to type through the crazy mad house full of kids and distractions... :) :)

Anyway more related to the topic.....Im the designated driver for our lot in a way....If they want a few pints then ill pick them up and drop them home.....
They never take the piss either and get completely wasted....Its usually just a few sociables and a bit of grub.....
But they in turn will offer to buy me my grub which i think is pretty neat.....All in all everyones a happy camper :D
