American Golf for Driver fitting

I would only use an AG fitting if I just wanted to hit lots of different clubs for free and make my own mind up. But I wouldn't trust their recommendations as far as I could throw them. Most of their fittings seem to be done by golf salesmen rather than proper fitters.

It depends on the level of detail you want from the fitting. If you want to try 15 different shafts for each brand of club, AG are not for you. If you want to try a few different club brands, with their standard shaft options, they are perfectly okay. They get a good amount of stick but for regular golfers, they are fine.

Always remember, no one forces you to buy. Try out the clubs, say you want to think about it. Don't feel pressured to buy. (I should add, my son did a fitting with AG and also a dedicated fitter. At no point did the AG fitter pressure him, they were very helpful)

One other point, whether an AG fitter is any good or not is often quite random to the shop. You have a good one then a not so good one. Not all are the same.

Yeah that’s what I was worried about.
Is that an option to just try different clubs with them? Ie, is the “free fitting” only applied when you purchase something?

As far as I recall, AG fittings are completely free, even if you don't buy. But as LT says, the detail is lower as they won't have a vast array of shafts. So it's just for you to try as many different stock clubs as you can really.

AG are a big organisation, some shops may be good, some may be bad. I doubt many will do fitting in the truest sense, they will just let you try different clubs in the standard set up. If this suits you, they will be fine. If you want to try every combination of head and Carlos fandango shaft, try a proper fitter - but expect to pay.

I’m not looking for anything fancy in all honesty. And with my level, I think AG may be just fine.

AG is a place you can go and try clubs. They book it as a fitting, but there is no fitting which takes place.

For the cost of a driver, I'd personally always go for a proper fitting if you intend to buy, as the fee is usually knocked off the price of the club and is effectively free.

That said, you may arrive dreading spending £500 and end up with a four ton shaft on top 😁

I got a driver fitting in 2015 at AG and came away with a Ping G30 which i am still using now, our pro on numerous occasions has given me an all singing all dancing new driver and i don't get any more distance than my G30 so can't complain about their service.

Very dependent on the branch and, of course, their staff.

Don’t pay in full up front for a club you place an order for. They may have little interest in making sure the club arrives in good time.

If they don’t agree, go elsewhere.
