Amber Rudd - Not up to the Job of Home Secretary?

Firstly, doesn't that mean that there are some whopping great big lies in there as well..?
Secondly, if you lie then you are, by definition, a liar. The size of content is irrelevant.
Everybody lies, therefore all MPs are liars, therefore I concur with the Honourable Gentleman from Lincolnshire.
And the number of MPs forced to resign down the years for being liberal with the truth certainly implies that it's not an uncommon occurance.

QED I would suggest. No doubt there will be a spun answer soon

I believe so - but love and doing the right thing gives a context for all of them.

Maybe I can find a love-based context for the PMs dissembling (not quite lying)

Love does not give a different meaning to lying, it only gives a context for forgiveness.

Lying is still lying.

On this issue it isn't a white lie, it is a blatant lie to preserve a political position, whether that be the physical position of Home Sec or the supremacy of a political dogma.

By all means forgive, and in the context of politics I can understand and accept that. But that then affects credibility and effectiveness, which any political figure needs.

Yes - lying is lying - but surely sometimes it is OK to lie or not tell the whole truth if, by doing so, you avoid hurting someone you don't want to hurt and nothing else untoward results from you doing so.

As far as Rudd is concerned - she lied to protect herself and May for purely political reasons - and she lied on a matter of profound significance to others. That she might have felt under pressure or indeed duress to do so I can quite imagine - but...Guilty as charged.

Or close them as they all descend into the same point scoring farce

The problem with political discussion is that most people are already entrenched in their worldview, so rather than people looking at things from all angles and finding common ground and good ideas, they just shoot down anything opposing their view, without thought, and fire back anything supporting their side again, without thought.

I like to think that most politicians at least most of the time think they are doing what is right, even if it is not what you or I think is right.
Like a parent punishing a child, the parent will think they are doing the right thing, the child will think the parent is doing the wrong thing, onlookers will have various views, and the truth as to whether the punishment was the right choice or not will only likely be revealed years later.

Well on Rudd - I rather liked her before this all blew up. And despite her being on the Remain side of the Brexit argument I cannot make any argument that suggests she should not have resigned. Even if she had felt 'forced' or 'required' to lie, she should have known not to on such an important matter - so no excuse.
