Amazing donation from TaylorMade!

Just a thought Simon, do a blind auction on here with bids being PM'd to you, similarly on any other (ahem) golf forum that you may have links to, and then run the auction at the Ball with the best forum blind bid in reserve.

Would that work?

Not a bad idea, Roger. I'll run that by the Ladies Captain and see what she thinks.

Cheers, fella

You could always auction the Ladies Captain.

As an ex Westerham member, do (did) I know her - in a non-biblical sense that is ............

Ladies Captain is priceless, so can't possibly auction her!

I've pm'd you, mate

A really grand gesture from the TM rep.

But is it really that good as a "prize" for within a relatively small group such as a ball audience? A tour bag is a big object and the fact it is signed by Justin Rose (or anyone's else) would not gain it any extra house room in the eyes of HID. Nor any kudos for the amount spent. And trawling it around a golf couse with golf clubs in just makes it a piece of golf kit that will wear out in the end. I've never really understood the "signed by..." thing. Are the ball guests really going to part with big money? Or even the wider club membership? Auctioning it on in the wide world is where you'll get most - but that's not what the TM rep donated it for.

I kind of agree, but trouble is Chris, we've only got 53 at the ball. So a fiver each only makes us £265, which I don't think is enough, and we've got a good few non-golfers too, so reckon we'd get less than £225.

If I an auction, I could get a fair bit more I think. Could do a sweepstake outside the ball, or extend the raffle out to allow people to enter in the pro-shop too.

Things to think about.

I'm sure that whatever you do will be right for the charity Bratty, my initial comment was largely based on business charity dinners where employees egg on the millionaire boss to buy and he does just to look big, it just brasses me off

The H4H auction was/is done with more humour and, mostly, just ordinary people.

I have received a certificate of authority from TM.

One thought I had was to donate it as an auction prize at The Ron Noades Memorial Golf Day, as there'll be a load of people there who can afford to buy it, and would more than likely want it.

However, Lady Captain and I have decided after a bit of discussion that the best thing will be to run a raffle over a 4 week period, through the pro-shop, so that members and visitors alike have the opportunity to win this wonderful prize. That way, we should raise a good bit for charity.

Thanks to all who made suggestions, and to those who expressed an interest in buying it.

As an update, we changed our minds again, and auctioned it at the ball, and if it didn't make what we wanted, we would open it up for sealed bids for two weeks in the pro-shop.

The bidding started at £250, and the hammer went down at... £410!
