Bit of a nothing post but...

Was just updating my sig following my recent bag changes (havent even received all the clubs yet but what the hell), thought, yeah that will look good, I like how nike clubs play anyway so it isnt just about having the same name.

Then I thought about the blokes (especially some of the senior members) at the club with old bags, mish mash clubs who promptly wipe my backside in the competitions :(

I bet there are a few like me at every club, keen, all the gear and utter pish when it comes down to actually playing.

Oh and dont worry, I intend to be the one kicking their arse by next season ;)

I take your point. I have always had matching sets, not because I want to emulate any pros (god knows my swing will never let that happen) but because I just feel more comfy and happier with the set up that way. We've a couple fo single figure guys with the most beaten up old bats you could find so its definitely not always about the best shiniest gear but how you use it.

I have to admit to becoming a bit obsessed with matching stuff up, colour co-ordinating my outfits (see Rick G has definitely had no effect on me) and so forth.

Becoming a bit OCD actually, quite worrying :)

im in that camp, well sort of. The true ATGNI guys in my eyes are the ones who decide to take up the sport, buy the latest most expensive gear play twice then quit.

my biggest thing is the little stuff. gloves for all conditions, printed pdsoftd for regular play and then brand new orange pd longs for winter. then loads of accessoires themed with smily faces. once got asked if i carried a shop because i had changed gloves and happened to pull out a sealed sciflex and 2 sleeves of balls and a sealed pair of rain gloves fell out!

I had the occasion to play Kingsbarns a couple of years ago with my mate. We were joined on the tee by an Italian couple who were on a Golfing Holiday playing all the top UK courses. Anyway to the point it transpires that she was a an ex Tour Pro now teaching and her husband an 18 handicapper.

She had a bag of clubs that wouldn't have looked out of place at a Car Boot Sale and he had a Brand New Set of the Latest Taylormade Clubs at that time. She went round in level par with this bag of clubs and he was lucky to have any balls left in his bag, he lost that many. She was a joy to watch and showed me that a good player can play with anything.

So Talent will always come to the fore and can play with any equipment and we mere mortals can only dream but can have the latest clubs !

The problem is that you're looking at the guys with a mish mash of gear and seeing them now..You can almost guarantee that when they started, they bought the best gear they could afford, and that worked for them... They then stuck with them... Imagine yourself in 20 years, with all your Nike clubs in your old rickety bag, kicking the arris of young whippersnappers with all the newest gear...

is that a plug for your post in the FS section Jason ;)

I did use PD soft for a while but got the srixon on a deal and have still got 12 left of 24 from about 3 month back, its the tight northerner in me lol

I think the secret to consistency is a contented golf bag. Constant changing shows that there is indecision and a quest for more performance even if the last set were not exactly being pushed to their max by a lack of the owners ability/belief/want to improve (delete as appropriate)
One new shiny is fine, carrying all this years models screams ATGNI to me.

Not necessarily. Some people love spending money, some people desire the lastest gear in their bags. I love my current irons but both of the above reasons will see me looking at the i20's when they arrive.
The old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted" is the maxim where new golf clubs are concerned.
I know they won't help my game, I know they won't reduce my handicap, I know they won't have me hitting the ball "purer". Doesn't stop me wanting them though!

Oi!!! Don't go blaming me........I only sold you the tour bag..........oh and the hybrids.............and pointed you to the for sale post and said you'd be mad not to buy those VR cavity irons..............

Ok I take full responsibility............. :D :o

Ps I still think you would be better off with my 9.5 VR driver than that 10.5 one........:o :D
