All the gear golfers. Are you one?

I do like nice gear, but I'm concious of the fact that people may sneer a bit at those of us that do.

My irons were upgraded this year, and are kept in a nice big Titleist Trolley Bag, which I like because I know I am covered for all eventualities of weather etc, -its just 'in there' at all times. Balls/tees, blah blah.

Same with clothes & shoes etc, I like some new gear now & again, and not some old stuff Ive had for years & years etc.

Maybe I can get away with it off 10 more than someone off say 25, as you're perceived to 'know what you're doing', but thats not fair, we all aspire to play better golf, and if you think it helps you, anyone should feel ok wearing & using what you want.
The proof will be in the scoring.
 
I love new clubs.
I don't drink (much) 'cos I get pissed easy.
I smoke the cheapest baccy I can.
So if I fancy a new set of sticks, I'll buy them (but I make sure all the bills are paid first).
I still play like a Jodrell, but so what.
I'm happy (most of the time)
 
If you can afford it I think people will buy upper end market equipment generally.

I think because golf used to be played by more wealthier people who could afford to play, along with the tradition and well spirited attitude it makes people feel they should have the best gear and if you don't then people look down on you.

Did that make sense??? :confused

Makes total sense. i had a strong word with myself last night and appart for the balls and tee's, no more wacking sticks till im at 12 h/c. anything from here on is clothing. :D

Although unless I win a competition or the lottery or something I cant see myself with new bats for a good few years.

Weans are an expensive hobby!
 
I used to be, would buy new kit all the time but the current economic climate has put paid to that. In fact I have now gone back to some of my old gear that I thought was not right for me last year.

I get more fun now out of hunting bargains and finding good kit at low prices. Other than my driver, which was a present, my only full price purchases have been with pro shop vouchers that I have won.
 
I don't play often enough to justify new kit but minus the driver, I get on ok with the ones I have.

I'd prefer to invest in club membership before I splash out on a decent set of clubs.
 
I am an all the gear golfer and proud of it.

I know the exact yardage to each green.

My cart ensures I feel fresh at the end of each round.

My feet are comfortable.

When it rains, I only have to leave the comfort of my trolly cocoon for a few moments to play each shot.

I have so much confidence in my clubs that I know any errors (and there are plenty) are purely down to me.

Do I look like a tw*t when I play?...I don't give a damn what anyone thinks, because I play golf because I love the game, not because I want to look good.

Anyone stood worrying about my set up should be concentrating on their next shot (probably however they are too wet, tired, unsure about yardage, uncomfortable and with a question mark over their clubs).
 
I totally agree with the above, no way will I pound the fairways with shoes and clubs caked in mud with a tide mark around my ankles on my trousers, using old balls and tees I've found and wacking them with 10 year old bats just because I see no reason to change them. I love my hobby and for me looking the part regardless of ability is part of my hobby. I work hard and like to spend a bit on myself when I want to. If I fancy anything new and I can afford it without putting myself into debt then I will have it and stuff what anyone else thinks.
 
I don't change my gear regularly or when the latest version of my clubs are released, got a new set of irons 18 months ago, but I do have a fair amount of gear which I get ribbed about. This year bought a new driver, GPS and Elec trolley....but what the hell...

I now have a driver I have confidence in and am getting much better results from....most of the time.

I now know how far from the green I am (am terrible at judging distance by eye), and IF I hit my irons right I am on the green instead of too short or too long as I used to be ALL the time

I can now play 18 holes and not feel like I've been on a route march

And my scores have come down too....well apart from the odd bad round :rolleyes:

all my stuff is new except irons because i've only been playing since dec last year. sorry about that.

getting custom fitted for new irons monday evening though, hurrah
 
Hi

I am definately all the gear.

Electric trolley, GPS, laser, new irons and putter, Footjoy shoes, Galvin Green jacket, Srixon golf balls and smart clothes.

My handicap has come down from 21 two years ago to 8.8 now. No talent, no lessons, just the easiest to hit, best gear.

Everyone knows that if you money to spend, spend it on equipment. Lessons are a waste of time and dosh. :D
