Advice wanted for a new player

Hi all,

I played a tiny bit of golf when I was growing up but never properly got into it, and I'm going to pick it up again with friends soon. I also was never confident with a wood outside of a driving range.

My question is I have a second hand set of Callaway Big Bertha X-12's and I'm thinking would it be a good idea to clean them up, put fresh grips on and only use a 3 iron, 5 iron, 7 iron, 9 iron, SW and putter?

Or would I be missing out something useful?

Maybe add a 5 wood at a later date

Sounds like a plan to me,new grips will make them feel new anyway and you are right to think a half set is plenty although 3irons aren't known for their easy to hit personality,I'd lean towards a 5w or a hybrid and work towards driver once you are a tad more confident, good luck 👍
