Agree with both of the above - Bob is right less depreciation on a used model. SILH I know what you mean, and until Bob pointed out to me there was no need to take a full swing at a wedge I was doing it, since then my strike improved dramatically. My full swing now starts at 7i. 8, 9i or wedges are all that controlled length you speak of for that reason

Many thanks for all the valuable advice, Guys.

Smiffy. It did my heart good to know that someone with all the posh kit you list is envious of my paltry distance!

I've scrubbed round the Ping G15.

And I take everyone's point about the cost-effectiveness of buying a used, good quality club as opposed to a new budget model for the same sort of price.

In terms of "try before you buy" I must confess to having difficulty in the past with my inability to discriminate on test so I think I'll go for a senior flex in the range of 23 to 25 degrees of loft and if I get it wrong I'll simply re-sell and go again....

I like the bit about some pros having back-swings on a par with my own!

I think I'll go for one of these-

The titleist is sold and I'd avoid the Srixon, its more of a players club. Nowt wrong with the other two, that said when the bidding starts at your budget limit you have to be savvy about not getting dragged into a bidding war when someone tries to pip you. Just bid what you'd be happy paying and let that be that, if someone bids higher you've lost it, plenty more fish. If someone doesn't bid as high as you put down, you win it at the lower price it is at.

If these fall through don['t think Adams is a lower teir brand, it really isn't, in terms of other clubs perhaps but in the hybrid market theyve been up there with the best for years (which is why Taylormade bought them a coulpe of years ago).

Hope you get something nice for Christmas - enjoy!

Thanks, Curls.

I managed to get the Taylormade M2 Hybrid 25 Degree Senior Shaft for £70 delivered which I'm pleased with as I gather it's in near-mint condition. Thanks to everyone for helping me thus far. This is not the end, etc., etc....

Have used the hybrid a few times now both on the tee and the fairway and I'm pleased that I've added about 30 yards on average to my usual 6-iron shot length! (Big oaks....)
