Adidas to sell of TaylorMade, Adams, and Ashworth

They sell dodgy Dunlop clubs. SD absorb struggling, existing brands into their empire. It is how they work. If they can get it cheap enough it would fit into their scheme nicely. I hope not as they cheapen brands that they buy but it depends on the options out there for Adams.

U cant buy dunlop golf clubs then no? or a donnay tennis racquet?

Do major sportsmen and women use Donnay racquets or Dunlop clubs?

My point being Adams are still a serious brand at a serious level of golf with well known competitive ambassadors. I personally cannot see Sports Direct buying brand that would require the type of R&D that Adams have currently unless TMAG are prepared to let the Adams brand all but die, not impossible I suppose but i'd be very surprised.

I'm not sure they are, unfortunately. What well known, competitive golfers are using their clubs? Maybe 1 or 2 maximum at the lower end of the PGA, similar on European and a couple of high profile Seniors?

TMAG bought Adams for the patents - and as part of the deal probably had to commit to a certain number of club releases and token presence on tour - they have them now and will let the brand die. Sports Direct are already pumping out their clubs at rock bottom prices so it wouldnt be a surprise to see them incorporated into the Ashley empire.

I don't think Adidas would care what happens to Adams after they have sold it. Not their concern is how they would see it. If they cared that much they would keep it. SD would not bother with R & D, they would just keep selling the same product, jazz up the colours every so often. They are a depressingly succesful company with a model that works, to the detriment of brands they take on. Slazenger were a top cricket brand for many years. Viv Richards used their bats for many years. Now they are bargain basement SD fodder.

Adams has a really good name in the hybrid market and I hope they get taken on by someone who can absorb them in a good way.

Pretty much spot on - I remember the days arguing with my brother over whether Slazenger or Kookaburra were better - which was really just me saying I wanted to be Alec Stewart while he wanted to be Graham Thorpe! Such a shame to see where they are now.

So who is going to buy TaylorMade? Bridgestone appear to have pulled out and Nike, Puma or Under Armour would be unlikely to be acceptable to adidas.

I seem to remember some on here suggesting adidas would never sell them but personally I felt it was always likely. adidas want to get back to their core activities, footwear and apparel.

To them golf is a minor area by comparison.

Going very OT, but my V500 was my pride & joy as a youngster, I scored some cracking runs with it!

Back OT, I'm someone will pick up the TM side of things, I can't see the Adams brand being around much longer.

I see TM going to UA. Just a hunch.

I think ashworth and Adams will change hands but will die out.

Apparently adidas are unwilling to sell the brand to a rival footwear and apparel company.

Private equity looks the most likely (rather like Titleist) but does not always work out well.

I was going to say, I wouldn't assume it will be another golf / sports brand. My money would be on a PE firm coming in for it.
