My club has just decided to change the Singles Stableford competition this weekend to a better ball because ' it has been decided a singles qualifying event is not yet appropriate'. This is because the greens have been top dressed. However, as the tee positions satisfy a measured course, the better ball event is going to be acceptable for handicap, so anyone in a team scoring 42 points or more might receive a handicap reduction if the conditions are met.
This seems ridiculous to me, surely the course either meets the requirements for an acceptable score or it does not, the nature of the competition is irrelevant. Perhaps I am being swayed by my opinion that the greens, while not perfect, are in reasonable condition for late March, and General Play scores are being allowed. Any thoughts?
