I'd be the first to admit that 'last night's' thread re Andy Murray, did get out of hand.

I'd like to make it perfectly clear, that I am not anti football or rugby. So to all those that were lead to believe that this was the case. It was not.

I do enjoy watching the odd good game. Regardless of who's playing.

Anyway I'm not here to justify my preferencs on what sports I like to watch or not.

I think that in retrospect that I should learn when to recognise the difference between friendly debate and all out baiting or argument. To this end I have PM'd Gustavo this morning.

With regard to Echtloon. I believe that this is not the first time that we have 'discussed' things.

I ended my last (and I mean last) post on the original thread with the words that I think that both of us have 'lost' this debate. I'll also add, perhaps some credibility.

Therefore. This morning I'd like to apologise to those that thought they might have been in the 'firing' line, and to those that had to read the on-going debate. Though that is your choice of course.

As I said. I should learn when not to be riled by peoples use of certain words. If they are used, I should just ignore the post.

Regards
HH

HH, I really dont see why you feel the need to make this thread this morning, I have just read through the remainder of the original thread from last night and I dont see anything that bad.

Just 2 or 3 folk having a discussion, nothing more & nothing less.

Dont beat yourself up over something that you dont need to beat yourself up about fella!

I stayed out of that thread (very unusual for someone as contentious as me) except for a vain post trying to bring the thread back on track.

I have to be honest about 10 posts into the thing once it had kicked off I'd lost the will to read on and purely skim read through each point. It did seem to me there was a lot insular insecurity, deep nationalistic (almost jingoistic) fervour and some plain dislike of others viewpoint compared to their own.

We get these threads from time to time on various issues and to be fair I don't always think its a bad thing. I sometimes get the feeling that in some threads on the main forum there is sometimes an air of bubbling frustration which I think people do try and keep a lid on which is great as that forum is the most read and therefore the one new members and lurkers get their first or main impression of the site and I guess GM overall. Once in a while someone is always going to tread on someones toes and we'll have this silly spat for a day but history has shown that 99% of the time all the protaganists will calm down, and whilst still not agreeing with the other points raised will be man enough to agree to differ.

I sense that here. Everyone has been quite transparent on their opinions and as long as everyones view is now accepted (the whole point of a forum in the first place) then I think the matter can be considered closed and we can get back to a sense of normallity. For what its worth, I don't think anybody overstepped any line by a huge margin. A few comments made me wince a tad but in the heat of battle I'd be prepared to let them go if we got back to where we are now. No apologies required on any front as far as I can see.

LMAO. Not at all fella, I was just as much involved as you but I still stand by everything I said and I dont feel I need to apologise.

Anyone that feels they need apologising to shouldnt be on here IMHO as what was said, was said between adults who are old enough to have thick enough skin to not be offended by opposing views.

You and I could have said an awful lot worse to be fair!

Fair point. I'll get back to the original thread then!

Only joking.

I just thought that I'd be big enough to admit that things were getting out of hand, and although I could and probably would have argued the point 'till the cows came home. I thought it best to exit, before it started to get more personal than it already was.

After-all it's not in the forums best interests for these things to go on and on........

Fair point fella, the thread as it was going could have imploded at any given moment i'd have to agree!

Best leave it to just float off the bottom then huh? lol

Here's me thinking this was going to be about the "classic" 80s film with Demi Moore and Rob Lowe in it.

Anyway, Getting back to last night.
As it happens,I quite enjoyed myself actually.
It passed a very boring afternoon at work and I would like to thank everyone involved for a thoroughly good (at times) frank exchange of opinions without it degenerating into anything other than just that.

What's next on the agenda? The Iranian Election?
Who wants to start?

Jim Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins, if I remember correctly.

I didn't think anyone would remember that film.

Mind you at the time I thought that it should have ended 10 minutes before it actually does. ie the bit where Rob Lowe is lurking around in the rain realising what he's lost, and that he's not going to get the girl (Demi) back!

But I was a little 'off' relationships at that time due to a similar thing happening to me. Did I get the girl back. Never. These girls aren't as forgiving in real life as they are in the films!!!

I read the thread this morning and thought it was getting a little close to the mark. So I'm pleased you have agreed to disagree. I like to read the heated disscusions/debates on here, but when they start to turn personal it can get ugly, and it's not realy what this forums about.

Just need to send Atticus back in there to clean up the swearing. ;) :p
